trace2,
if not successful this month, I would advise trying another brand of ovulation stick next time.
I was using two at the same time, and when I ovulated they showed up completely differently. One had a very, very, faint line, and the other had a reasonable line all through the cycle which got a bit darker when I ov'd. It wasn't conclusive for either of them, in fact, according to the instructions of the first one I didn't ovulate at all, (I did as I'm pregnant now). I was relieved I had the two at the same time, because I wouldn't have known what was going on if I had been relying on only the one.
That said, if you have been BDing regularly, there is really nothing more you can do, so hopefully you won't have to buy any more.

Trace2 - I had a couple of cycles last summer which the doctors reckoned were anovulatory, i.e. I had a period, but hadn't actually ovulated. Went to see the doctor mainly because my cycle lengths had become quite irregular - so anything from 26 to 35 days from a previously regular 28 days. They sent me for some blood tests to work out whether I actually was or not - although these tests normally have to be done on certain days of your cycle in order to determine what's going on.

Clearly, if you don't ovulate, then you can't get pregnant - however for some people, as in my case, not ovulating can simply be caused by being stressed, run-down,etc. Having had everything check out OK - I went on to conceive 2 months later and am now 20 weeks pregnant.

Sorry to hijack, but does that mean that if your periods have become irregular, you may not be ovulating?
My cycles were 35 days, and after having ds3, I have had two cycles that are 42 days long.
The others have been normal. I am 38 years old.
Should I go to GP?

trace2 · 06/01/2006 19:58

yep sound like it, and we think we know our bodies

It is all rather mysterious.

If regular, not necessarily ovulating but good chance. If not regular, could signal hormonal problems but could still be ovulating - though obviously more difficult to time optimum conception time. Loads of women with irregular cycles ovulate and then subsequently fall preggo, so I don't think all is lost.
