One Step Ovulation Tests (the green ones)

I've just received my 50 (!) green ovulation tests off e-bay, and I'm a little baffled. People talk about doing this twice a day (sometimes at work, when they get home from work etc.), but I've just read the instructions and its not as simple as I thought.

Anyone know if you have to stick to all the instructions? Can I not just POAS?

  1. Pee in a cup (PIAC!)
  2. Leave your cup for 20mins to reach room temperature. Eugh! This will def not impress the DP, or work colleagues if I'm working late :)
  3. Dip the stick for 10 secs (that bit I can do)
  4. Leave the stick somewhere for 10 mins - 30 mins.

This in total could take an hour each day.
What are people's experiences?

Thanks

Hello 2popsocks,

I don't bother leaving it to room temperature and it always works fine for me. it does take a while to come up compared to a pregnancy test and you can get faint lines (which don't mean an LH surge).

I normally find that I have one day of a much darker line but not as dark as the control line, followed by one day with it dark and then a following day when it is back to being dark but not as dark as the control line. So doing it twice a day is not really necessary for me but I do find myself doing it more because I am a POAS addict and have long cycles and convince myself ovulation is nearly here when it isn't! Once I actually ovulate I know about it.

It is also worth matching the positive sticks to EWCM - I usually get EWCM a few days before a positive opk and it builds up reaching a peak on the day of the opk before tailing off very quickly.

Everyone is different but I find that it helps me to pinpoint my very irregular cycles very easily and I confirm ovulation with a rise in temperature 3 days after the darkest opk.

Good luck!

I don't bother with the room temperature. But you do need to PIAC as the sticks are too small to aim on accurately, you need the actual midstream tests if you want to pee on them.

Also you don't need to leave them for half an hour, you'll get a result well within the 10 minutes! They are normally done making or not making lines by 5 minutes tops in my experience.

Dont bother doing them at work. Morning and evening is fine, and if you don't think you are anywhere near ovulation yet then twice a day is wasteful. For example, I generally ovulate around CD16. I would not bother with twice a day until CD13 when I thought ov would be coming up soon. I tend to notice a fade in pattern, I get a faint line that gradually gets darker over the two days before I get a positive result.

Thanks for the advice. That makes it alot easier. I wasn't looking forward to the 20 minute wait for cool down! I tried them today, and they seemed relatively straightforward and I'm sure practice makes perfect. I look forward to many more PIAC experiences! :)
