It'll be a year in December and I've got the 'ump with it. Sad

What worked for you?

I don't mean LSH, I mean LH - getting my hormones mixed up!

gaelicsheep · 14/11/2011 21:52

I bought a book called Natural Fertility, or something like that, and as a result gave up caffeine. We went on holiday, relaxed and decided to stop trying for a few months. We were looking into adoption - had an appointment for our first meeting with a social worker - and had just been referred to the infertility clinic.

Was any of these things a factor? I dunno, but I definitely think the lowering of my expectations was a big thing.

gaelicsheep · 14/11/2011 21:54

That was after 4 years. As others have said go to the doctor by all means but the chances are there's nothing wrong at all and it's just a matter of time. Smile

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 14/11/2011 22:00

gaelicsheep I agree with that too. I think the fuck this, it's never going to happen attitude does "help" when you've been ttc for stupid amounts of time. But OP has a long way to go before that happens, and she probably won't ever have to get to that point, hopefully :)

i was trying for quite a few months, and teh month i did get pg, i did the drinking fresh pineapple leading upto ovulation thing.

could be a coincidence, but it wqs the first month i did thta

mrsshears · 15/11/2011 07:40

I gave up trying after nearly 9 mths and 1 mc (i started dec last year too) and guess what? i'm currently 11wks pregnant with dc3!
The month it happened we only dtd twice all month after all the previous months being carefully timed and using ov sticks.
I'm convinced not ttc is the new ttc, good luck Smile

Hi

I am also approaching the year mark and have given up so to speak on trying, have taken a big break away from mumsnet and am trying to lose weight (to give me something else to focus on) which is working so far!. I understand how you feel about getting down about it, me too!!!! But I do think you put yourself in a better frame of mind if you can take a step back. Good Luck with the rest of your TTC journey, fingers crossed Santa brings you a lovely BFP :)

Waves to Mrsshears - lovely to see you Grin

In the month we conceived I drank grapefruit juice and took evening primrose oil capsules until the day of ovulation.Tried doggie style-often I think that is what did the trick. Used very little preseed (didn't need much). It was also the month I was a bit distracted and not thinking as much about TTC. I used OPKs (Clearblue digital-expensive but worth it for me) as I hated charting and it stressed me out. Other things we did:
-cut down on our caffeine and alcohol intake and exercised regularly. Was very hard for DH to give up his coffee, but he did.
-I took vitamin D3. I had been prescribed this anyway as my vit D levels were low, don't know if it helped the TTC process.

goingmadtrying · 29/11/2011 15:29

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 09:25

Yay! Congratulations! What worked for you that month, do you think? :)

goingmadtrying · 30/11/2011 09:43

I stopped trying! Lost 10lb in weight as the GP had said that could be the problem and was rushing around organising my mum's wedding. Dont actually think we dtd that much, and not sure about the right time as wasnt watching :)

Thank you for the congratulations, all seems like a dream at the minute totally unexpected"

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 09:57

That seems to be the answer a lot! I'm planning on "not trying" next month, as I will be ovulating in the run up to the festivities and far too excited about a visit from Santy-Claws :)

Congrats again :)

RightUpMyRue · 08/12/2011 22:34

Congratulations goingmad, lovely news Smile

Hope all is going well?

Rightup have you tried ovulation tests and / or charting to confirm when you ovulate, or indeed that you are ovulating? Do you have regular cycles? As the other poster said (sorry, can't remember name Blush) it could be a matter of timing? Although if you're doing every other day maybe you'd be ok?

Sorry if you're doing all this stuff, but I know what you mean that going for tests just seems so serious etc.

We had ds reasonably easily, but were trying for dc2 for well over a year before anything happened. we did go for tests after a year (I was very worried - probably too much so - about the age gap with ds so didn't want to delay any more). The first sa for dh showed low motility so he started taking male conception vits, and he gave up drinking Pepsi (he already didn't really drink and had never smoked). The second SA 3 mths later was 'normal' which could have been coincidence or a genuine improvement. My blood tests showed nothing untoward but the fertility clinic did a HSG anyway as a fairly routine test and we got pg the cycle after that, so maybe that cleared a blockage or some sludge? Either way I'm currently 24 weeks pg but I do totally understand having the 'ump with it all. You could try the male conception vits sort of thing without any tests though - just but then in boots?

And sorry if you're reading that thinking 'err yes, I'm already doing that!' Smile

As beangrower says there are lots of lovely threads on here for hand holding and commiserating. I've found the brooking threads to be very lovely with a positive outlook, and indeed got my bfp the first cycle I was on there so maybe.... (can't link as an on my iPad but I'm sure you'd be v welcome Smile)

Biscuitsandtea · 09/12/2011 06:54

Ooops, sorry, just realised I'd missed a whole page of posts! Blush and you've been doing charting. Sorry!

Anyway - good luck and hope that if you do go to the docs they are helpful. If you do go to the docs, it's often worth going with an idea in your mind of what you want so as to not get fobbed off - I've seen on MN lots of different responses from doctors so some people just get sent away again and others get excellent treatment from the start. Might be worth even picking which doctor you see within your practice (if you have a choice) if some are better at these things than others, or you find some to be more sympathetic etc. Normally I think they would give you day 3 and day 21 blood tests and probs a SA for your DH.

There's loads of advice and clever people on mn though that can thoroughly prep you for the doctor Grin

nomoremagnolia · 09/12/2011 07:03

I can add another vote for acupuncture - I found a fertility specialist acupuncturist who treated both me and DH during our 2nd IVF attempt (which resulted in DS)

turtle23 · 09/12/2011 07:11

preseed. After over a year of trying we got bfp with 2nd month of preseed. 2nd time around 1st month!

helenlouisey · 09/12/2011 14:07

Hi, just wanted to add my thoughts, it took us a year to conceive DS, and now two years for no 2, (am 13 weeks pregnant) and the key each time was to get to the bottom of why we weren't conceiving, it was a different reason in each case. As soon as we had investigations and got the problem sorted then, with well timed intercourse, we've got pregnant within 3 months of trying each time.

I know it's easy to stick your head in the sand and hard to admit there may be a problem, especially with lots of stories about how so and so gave uo trying and magically got pregnant after trying for x number of years, but please get yourself along to your doctor after Xmas, it maybe something really simple that can be fixed. If it's something major surely it's best to find out now rather than further down the line? If the tests show nothings wrong then at least you know it's just a matter of time.

Anyway best of luck, and really hope you get your BFP soon

X
