right...i finally got the letter through giving me the results of all the tests i've had done over the last few months.

FSH - 6.8 iu/l
LH - 4.5 iu/l
17-Beta oestradiol - 99 pmol/l
Prolactin - 116 miu/l
Progesterone -,1.0 nmol/l
TSH - 1.2 mu/l

Luteal phase progesterone - 26 nmol/l
It says this is borderline satisfactory. It was done on day 21 of a 33 day cycle if that's relevant.

HSG - it says:
Uterus normal and deviated to the left. Free peritoneal spill over on the right indicating normal right fallopian tube. Left fallopian tube is markedly dilated and filled with contrast with no evidence of any peritoneal spill over. Also intravasation of contrast and the left ovary vein visualised extending upwards. In conclusion there is a normal right fallopian tube and blocked and hydrosalpinx of the left fallopian tube.

i've been referred for lap and dye to get a better assessment of my pelvis.

This site is quite useful for interpreting blood results www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html but the test printout usually has the normal ranges after your result so you can look at that too.

I'm no expert but two things jump out at me: first, it says that your left fallopian tube is blocked. I guess they might try to unblock this during the lap and dye. One blocked tube effectively means that you could only have got pregnant half the cycles you have been trying, so on the bright side, maybe there haven't been as many bfp-less cycle as you thought (if that makes sense). Second, your progesterone level is borderline for confirming ovulation BUT it was done too early, imho. Day 21 is just an average. It should be done at 7days after ovulation ideally. If you have a longer than average cycle (as you do) then day 21 is too early. If you have an average luteal phase of 14 ish days, you probably ovulated on day 18 or 19 and were no where near 7dpo when you were tested. So I wouldn't worry about that result. Ask for it to be redone and maybe use opks or charting that month to detect ovulation if your cycles are not completely regular.

I hope this helps.

thank you. I don't have a test printout, just a copy of the letter that has been sent to my GP.

It says on my letter to phone and arrange a fertility clinic appt if i need to talk any of this through with someone in the dept. I did that already and the first appt available is jan 19th. My lap and dye has been requested already will probably be the end of DecHmm so it looks like i'm going to have to fight to get someone in the dept to talk this through with me before the procedure.....

That's really rubbish.

Can you ask for a test print out? That might help you.

Can you tell the clinic you will accept a cancellation appointment at short notice (if this is possible for you).

screamqueenrollo · 31/10/2011 15:34

they won't give me a test print out. I asked twice already and was told they don't do that.

I have practically typed out my OP from the letter I have in front of me. I will ask to be put on the cancellation list, though am going to phone tomorrow and ask if i can email my queries to the consultant.

I want to know if this lap and dye is purely exploratory or if they are hoping to do something constrcuative while i'm under - for example will they remove the tube if it's very bad. It's not exactly the sort of conversation/information that you want to be dealing with on the morning of surgery while signing a consent form is it?

That's rubbish! They are your test results. My GP is very good about that. I am not sure how the hospital will be.

It's ridiculous that they are expecting you to undergo surgery without knowing what to expect! if you are not time-constrained (e.g. by age) can you put off the lap and dye until after the appointment in January?

screamqueenrollo · 31/10/2011 16:35

i just emailed the secretary. Have given up phoning her.

I asked if someone could answer some questions for me via phone or letter, as I don't want to consent to surgery without having a few questions answered. She responded 'that's not a problem we can delay the procedure, would you like me to book into the January clinic'....

I'm 36 so not ooollldd but still, it's been 2 years now and I don't want to keep losing more time.
I have responded by saying yes book me into the clinic and oh by the way - i'm making a complaint about the rubbish communication from your dept.

she responded 'you will have been told at your initial appt that fertility treatment is a staged management' and I responded that 'no i wasn't, i was led to believe i would get my results along the way'.......

so...that's it. she's booking me into the january clinic and their 'waiting times' mean i will get my lap and dye sometime in March...
