Vasectomy reversal

Hey, i hope this is in the place

My husband has a serious accident at work in 2001 when i was pregnant with my son who is now 9 yrs old. He asked for a vasectomy as he didn't think he would get another job and was suffering depression because of his accident and didn't want to have any more babies if we wasn't financially stable. So when my son was a few months old, he had it done.

Now in 2008, he finally managed to get a job and still has the same job. We are now more stable to bring another child up. He has been to the Dr's today and they have refered him to the surgeon who will do the reversal.

Does this mean that they have said yes to getting it done as i've heard that actually getting the referal is the hardest part??

I know that the chances of it working are slimmer as it's been nearly 10 yrs since he had it done

Is it being done on the NHS or privately?

Possibly the GP has referred him to the surgeon to see if he is a suitable candidate for reversal. The funding issue will come up then - the surgeon would normally then write to your PCT to ask if they will pay for his op.

I don't think funding for something like that is automatic, but the surgeon needs to see if it can be done before asking for the money to do it.

Disclaimer: this is how it proceeds in my NHS trust anyway.
