We've been ttc#2 for 20 months now with no success. I've steadily put on weight since October 2009 (had number 1 son in Jan 2008), and am thinking that this might have something to do with it (as well as the fact that I'm 39 so my eggs might be a but crispy).

I know a few people who conceived after losing some weight - I was wondering if there are any others out there?

I am a size 18-20 and could definitely do with losing a few pounds anyway, but I'm thinking a change in focus might do me some good as well, the relentless ttc cycle with it's ebbs and flows are doing my head right in at the moment.

wow, so much to know! Grin

Hello. I lost about three stone before conceiving dd-had been trying for ages. am now in cyclic battle with last stone above previous fertile weight (not exactly healthy bmi level, but at least I know it can work when I weigh that) but not getting far due to cake. Last year I got pg after losing half of that, but it didn't stick. Hence I am very much of the mindset that if I only bloody stopped eating for five minutes I might actually win a baybee , so I'll be in your gang ifyoulike?

Does anyone else-particularly long time triers, think there is something in the 'if I can blame it on being fat I don't have to think about my actual fertility' self sabotage type thinking? I'm sure I do this to an extent, and wonder how to break the mindset? The 'eating less' thing sounds intriguing, I shall go investigate.

MadameBoo · 04/09/2011 20:33

Starry I have investigated and it makes much sense - am going to order the book.

Hi all, I'll join you in the 'lose weight and win a baybee' contest if I may.

I've been off the pill/TTC for 11 months and am not ovulating. My BMI is (or was before I lost 4lb last week- may have changed?!)27 but Dr has said to try and get it down to 24 at least as apparently your weight is huge factor in whether you ovulate. So I started WW last week and lost 4lb in my first week! The other thing I have noticed is that as it is keeping me busy, planning meals and tracking points and what-not, I have been thinking about TTC less than usual and even forgot to take my temps a few days this month.

Good luck to us all

MadameBoo · 05/09/2011 13:37

Wonderful worrying nice to see you :)

Things I have done so far:

  1. Restrained myself at a children's party and didn't gorge myself on sausage rolls and cake.

  2. Snacked on raisins instead of toast

  3. Ordered Rosmeary Conley's low g.i diet book from amazon (should be here by tomorrow).

Hi all, thought I'd join u too on this thread, as I too have a lot of weight to lose but I am also ready to have another child.
I have just ordered my first batch of WTG (weight to go ) food products - (Check out the website, just google weight to go). Will be starting my diet tomorrow. I have also just had my implant removed so hoping something great happens really soon as I am longing for baby#2.
It's great hearing about all ur experiences, so I'll be sticking to this thread if u all don't mind.

Well, today is my first proper day. I'm doing a scary 2 week booster thing and I have never done proper dieting before (onlky slimminig world, which I am bored shitless with). So far today I have had some weetabox and kiwi fruit. Not my usual breakfast fruit of choice but Rosemary Conley has spoken. Grapes are my mid morning power snack. Can't wait...

MadameBoo · 07/09/2011 10:01

oh, look at my lovely typos. Weetabox is my fave I think :o.

Aworryingtrend · 07/09/2011 10:18

Grin at weetabox. Well they do taste a bit like cardboard...

I'm finding WW really easy to follow, once you get your head round the points system. I'm not eating anyhting drastically different to what I would normally, just masses more fruit and veg and smaller portion sizes and planned snacks/treats rather than succumbing to the 4pm chocolate brownie monster.

I've got a meal out on Friday though- 3 course set menu- so that will be interesting...

Is anyone else cutting out alcohol? My GP (who herself had fertility issues and had IVF) has recommended cutting it out completely although my consultant was more 'everyhting in moderation'. Trouble is I am not a 'glass of wine a night and no more type girl', I am your classic 'binge' drinker I suppose in that I won't drink for a couple of weeks at home but then have a night out and get shitfaced carried away. So I have stopped drinking altogether. In a way I think it will make dieting easier as it is just empty calories after all and drinking gives me the munchies.

divinedestiny · 07/09/2011 13:51

loving ur typos too!
I tried WW twice, lost weight on old plan a few years ago, but hardly anything on new propoints plan, plus after a couple of months got tired of weighing & tracking.
So today is my first day of my WTG diet, had a shake this morning (delish) and some fruit, about to have a nice soup for lunch. Not bad so far!

MadameBoo · 08/09/2011 08:46

Well I got through yesterday - snacking in carrots - not one biscuit, cake, choc, or smidgen of butter got past my lips. I am so glad this part of the diet is only 2 weeks though!

Cutting out alcohol is part of this one Trend - but after 13 more days I'm allowed a 100cal drink every day, or you can save them up, which is what I'll do I think.

How is everyone else doing?

I have PCOS, years ago I worked with a midwife who also had it and 3 children.

She worked in a fertility clinic and always told patients your body has an idea of its correct weight and will not let you concieve easily if you are above or under it.

E.G at 9.7 stone I had 4 maybe 5 periods a year, but at 7.12 - 8.7 I have a regular 30 day cycle.

One of my aunts has it, even 60 years ago they knew weight was an issue and told her to lose weight. She had 3 children in the end.

mrsC82 · 26/09/2011 00:02

Hi, I have pcos and had clomid to conceive ds1 and ds2. After the the birth of my second child something in me decided to lose weight so I counted every calorie and walked everywhere, 6 months later I'd lost 4.5 stones and felt like a new person. one day in month 8 of dieting, for some bizarre reason I decided to use a preg test which I had in may drawer, to my total shock and amazement I had a bfp, I couldn't get my head round it as my periods were practically none existstant. So yes, I'm a great believer that loosing weight is a massive step in the right direction.

By the way, I'm new to all this and this is only my second post, hope it's ok xxx

mrsC82 · 26/09/2011 00:10

Oh yes and I'm also doing ww as I need to shift some weight again as it's been 14 months since my last period so reading all of your comments makes me feel like I'm not alone :) x

Italiangreyhound · 15/10/2011 09:37

Hello ladies, very inspirational stories.

SoTHISisWhatPanicLooksLike · 15/10/2011 14:18

Re: the cutting out alcohol theory...it kind of worked in reverse for me.

I barely drink at all. I pretty much cut it out as a weight loss measure a couple of years ago. I have lost a lot of weight but have a lot more to go.

Anyhow, last month we went on holiday to an all-inclusive resort where I made sure I got my money's worth by indulging in wine and cocktails every night. I drank as much in a week as I had in the previous 6-8 months (and enjoyed every sip!). Yesterday, I got a BFP. Coincidence? Probably. But interesting nonetheless, I think.

ellmum · 18/10/2011 16:36

I got pregnant two months after I started running. I wasn't running very far but at least 3 times a week and I had definitely noticed a difference in my body. Before that I had been trying to get pregnant for about 7 years, so quite a while. I think it was general fitness with me, although it can't have hurt to shed a few pounds and it wouldn't now either.
