Not ovulating?

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
TTC 2. Got pregnant easily first 2 times, within first, then second month but unfortunately ended in miscarriage.
Anyway after second miscarriage used ovulation testing sticks and didn't ovulate for 6 months. Then got a smiley face and got pregnant with dd.
Anyway dd is nearly 3 so decided to try for another baby.
Have been using ovulation sticks for 5 months and according to them haven't ovulated.
Surely this is not normal? Am starting to get really upset and stressed. Is is too early to go to the gp and ask for blood tests? DH wants us to wait and stop using ovulation sticks, but how can I? Think i'm a bit obsessed with them now.

I have never had a positive on an opk stick, and have heard loads of people on here say the same. Including some who have gone on to fall pregnant. I know it is hard to stop obsessing, god knows I'm terrible for it. GP would probably not offer blood tests this early i'm afraid. Maybe try charting instead?

Skyberry - what a weird coincidence to read your post. We are using a duofertility monitor which has decided that so far this month I have not ovulated (CD19 now). Normally I am as regular as clockwork and can't work out where ovulation would have gone just this month? Seems to happen every other month - but weird to have someone having the same thing today!.

We also fell pg easily before (mth 2 but ended in miscarriage, then mth 3 which resulted in DS who is now nearly 3. We have been trying for 18 mths and after a year the gp referred us for tests.

Maybe try charting for a month or two and see what that says but you could always try your GP. Worse they can say is come back after 12 mths but if you can say you've been testing for ov and nothing they may send you sooner? Can't hurt to try!

Hope there is some ovulation-ing going on in there somewhere but just can't see it :)

Lisa xx

The thing I don't get is would you still get AF if you weren't ovulating?

Faggotsnpeas · 12/07/2011 13:51

I used to work with someone who was desperate to have a second child, but she was not ovulating, therefore she was not having her AF.
I would have thought that if you are still having AF then somewhere along the month you would ovulate, although I am no medical expert. When we were ttc no.2 I never used APK's but just kept doing the "deed" every other day each month, which tired DH out, but was worth it, as we are now 26 weeks and 3 days. It did take us about 8 months though, with a mc 2 months before this one.

Good luck, hope it works out for you

I found these OPK sticks really tricky
If I tested morning and evening I sometimes never found the LH surge
But if I tested a lot more during the day, I would get it more often.
I think there is only a short window of opportunity to get that LH surge to show up. I.e it would only show for a couple of hours, if that.

Just my experience.

which ones are you using? I think the digital smiley face ones are better

Hi - i had blood tests last week and the doctor told me that i did not ovulate on this test, i have to go back a week beore AF due to have more bloods taken then i guess its just waiting to see, but i am on average on a 42 day cycle, skipping periods in jan and may this year :( it has been 8 months since i had the coil removed (no hormones just the standard coil) so as we are slightly older i have a sympathetic doctor who is happy to TRY and get us into see a specialist before the 12 month 'rule' if he will see us. Just go see your doc, they can only say no to giving you a blood test yet but at least it will be on file that you are concerned x x

What is your cycle like in comparison to prior to dc#1? You can still have af without ovulating but it tends to be different. I've had a couple of anovulatory cycles since I started charting and found they were longer and my pms was awful.
I do ovulate based on blood test results, charting and cm but have never had a positive opk.
I think GP visit depends on your age. Over 35, go now!
If you can be bothered and cope with the pitfalls you may find charting helps you ubders

If you can be bothered and cope with the pitfalls you may find charting helps you understand what's going on. Have you read Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler? I found it really helpful. Not too expensive. You can get it on Amazon.

Thanks for all your responses.
Am finding the whole thing a bit depressing wish i'd never started using opk sticks.
The thing I don't really understand is I have a really regular cycle 26 - 28 days, therefore I think I must be ovulating. At least the majority of the time.
Am using the digital clearblue sticks as have found the ones with the lines a bit tricky to read.
Have read somewhere recently that testing in the afternoon may be more accurate, so will try that and maybe charting is worth ago. Has anyone else found afternoon testing better?
I'm 30 so guess I should carry on for a few more moths before visiting GP.

Most people test around 4pm I believe.

thelittlefriend · 13/07/2011 12:23

apparently the hormone is created in your body in the morning so won't show up until the afternoon - don't use early morning wee like you have to with a pregnancy test. Like Have says, about 4pm is best

roratone · 13/07/2011 12:57

I'm on month 1 of TTC #1 and according to my clearblue monitor I've not yet ovulated either! On day 22 and been 'high' since day 10 with no peak.

Wierd thing is, I got egg white stretchy CM and last weekend got horrible cramps - really thought AF was coming 10 days early.

Flipping bodies!!!!

roratone · 16/07/2011 14:34

Little update: on day 25 now and clearblue has ~finally~ gone down to low after 14 high days and no peak. Getting pooey af cramps now, backache and nausea so think that's me out for this month. Hubs away till after af so am blobbing out with choc. Was hoping to meet him from airport with an "I'm pregnant" sign but think he would have freaked out!!!
