Cramps from ov to af

Just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice.

We have not really been ttc but have not been using contraception for about a year. Recently we decided to start trying and I have noticed that I get af type pains from about a week before af is due. This month I have crampy pains from about 3 days after ov - should say I have started to use ov sticks and temping to try and see when I am ov'ing. I am worried that these pains could mean that even though the egg is fertilised that the cramps would stop it implanting. I have only started to try for a baby and already I am a raving looney.

Does anyone have a similar problem adn still manage to get pg.

Hi Kate,

I had the same problem, and still do every month (have been ttc for over a year now). Went to see GP who said "It's a good sign, it means you have ovulated and are producing prostaglandins."

I have to say I wasn't reassured as I thought prostaglandins are what the body produces to start labour/contractions?

If any one else can offer further advice I'd also be grateful.

All I can suggest, Kate, is that you ask your GP?

Good luck, BL

I would seek medical advice from your GP re the cramping. Do these same pains continue when AF arrives also?. I would also mention that you have not used contraception for a year.

You can actually have a blood test done to see what your hormones are like - this will tell you if you are ovulating or otherwise. Charting and the like are not totally reliable indicators especially if the cycle is at all irregular.

Think both of you should be tested at the same time, subfertility can equally be the man's problem as well as the woman's.

Thanks MU, we've both been tested. I'm OK but DH is subfertile. I had no satisfactory answer tot he cramping, though, and am putting up with it.

Hi, I seem to get these from ov onwards too, also sickness and breast tenderness. I put some of it down to thinking about it to much as I've been trying since my m/c in May. I've just started acupucture and the guy said he would look at my post ov symptoms carefully and see what conclusions he can come too. I have a fairly long wandering cycle, so had a 21 day progeterone test last month as I was convinced I wasn't ovulating, but it turns out I did (that month at least) I think thinking about it too much can make you notice things that normally just blend into the background. But check with your gp just in case. Good luck.

Thanks everyone

It is always good to know you are not the only one with a problem. I truly think that at times I am just more aware of what my body is doing than others. I have to say that once af arrives all cramps go away. They are not severe enough to take painkillers but I am aware of them IYKWIM. We will probably give it a month or two and if nothing has happened I will go to my GP for some investigations.
