Hi,
I developed pre eclampsia at 22 weeks in my first pregnancy and we sadly lost our little boy at 24 weeks (7 months ago). I am desperate to be pregnant again but terrified that I will get pre eclampsia again. Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi Ciwi, sorry for your loss.
I'm TTC #2. I had pre-eclampsia first time round but luckily it started around 26 weeks and I made it through to induction at 38 weeks, with labetalol and frequent monitoring. I've done a lot of googling about pre-eclampsia to see if there is anything I can do to reduce risk and the only thing I can say is that plenty of people seem to have not had it with #2 when they'd had it with #1, so here's hoping xx

Thanks for your reply. Have you been advised to start aspirin? It would be amazing if I didnt get it 2nd time round I was just hoping to get far along enough for the little one to be ok. I have been told i would be on aspirin from 8 weeks next time.
You did well to get to 38 weeks from 26. I was on labetalol and nifedipine. i believe that if my bp was checked at 20 weeks i would have stood a better chance but you can't turn back the clock. I feel a bit reassured that I would be monitored more closely next time round. Have you been ttc for long?

I was only told that I may be monitored more closely next time from earlier on. We've been TTC for a few months, less so around March/April cos I don't want my baby to have a Christmas birthday lol. How long is it for you?

They will monitor you so closely second tome. I had late onset pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy so much less serious than yours. Second time I had fortnightly checks with the consultant from v early on and when my BP Rose even slightly they had me in. I was v lucky and didn't get pre-eclampsia again. Your chances of avoiding it are quite good if I remember the stats rightly.

I am very sorry that you lost your little boy and wish you all the luck in the world for the future. Make sure you have a good consultant you are happy with. Where do you live?

Excuse the typos. My phone keyboard drives me mad.

You might find this research useful and also magnesium is thought to help. I had the eclamptic seizures during labour without any preeclampsia. I was closely monitored second time round and all was well.
