How much time off for IVF

That's the question really! With another unsuccessful cycle of clomid, the likelihood of IVF becomes more and more....likely! However, I've already worked out my holiday for the year and did not think about the days off I'll need for any IVF appts.

So. Advice please. Assuming. I can't do evening appts, I'll need to take half days for all appts. How many appts and how much time to i.need to think of?

Thanks. Struggling with the whole idea really. Of course, when we see the FC again next month we'll have a better picture. But Im trying to plan and get my head round it.

Hi ruggette I think it depends on the clinic really. I am just about to start ivf at guys and the schedule is:

1 appt with consultant
1 set of blood tests
1 meeting with nurse to discuss drugs etc
1 scan during the down regs
3 scans during the stimulating phase (they think I am going to be sensitive to the drugs, I think most people just have 2)
Egg collection
Embryo transfer

Crikey that's actually quite a lot if you look at it all in one go. You might be able to have bits done elsewhere like the blood tests at your gps.

Hope you get your bfp before you need to think about ivf though!

Hi Ruggettee just wanted to say good luck, I find myself in exactly the same position, I finished my course of Clomid last month and my appt with the FC at Hammersmith is tomorrow. Fingers crosses for your ivf cycle garden pixie x

Hi, I agree with garden pixie's reply, but re the follicle tracking scans, it could be more than 2 or 3, depending on how you respond to the drugs and if they need to be adjusted.
It's such an unpredictable process that as well as considering your holiday allowance, it would be well worth speaking to your manager and discussing some flexibility in your working pattern for the time around your IVF cycle. I confided in my (female, scary) manager and she surprised me with her support. I did go on to suffer with ovarian hyper stimulation following egg collection and embryo transfer though, and had to have a further week off, though that was covered by sickness leave.

Good luck, I hope it works first time for you!

Thank you all for your responses. Gardenpixie - I did wonder if you'd reply, as I remember from another thread you were starting soon. You were v helpful then as well!!

Looks like I ought to start saving days for sure!

Good luck to you all as well
