scarring on cervix

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any knowledge on this. My friend has been ttc for a few months and has had no luck so far. She did have dodgy cells removed from her cervix when we were in our mid twenties and they always said if she got pregnant then she would need to put a stitch in her cervix. She has now gone for a few tests and her hormones are fine but she was going to have her tubes checked ( with dye I think) and they couldn't get whatever needed to be put in her tubes because of this scarring.

Did she have pelvic inflammatory disease or something that caused the Fallopian tubes to scar? Link here:

I'm no expert, but I don't know why the scarred tubes would be linked to the cervix necessarily - others may know much more

Cervix stitch thing may be because she had cone biopsy to get rid of those cells. www.pregnancy-bliss.co.uk/cervicalincompetence.html
Can cause a weak cervix but doesn't always. I THINK my sister had this (she had treatment for quite severe cervical changes) and having just delivered a 9 and a half pound baby that was very late, it clearly isn't true for everyone.

Very best of luck - always a worry to start out with these issues

I had a couple of chunks of my cervix taken out in 2004 & 2005. The result was my cervix waas very tight and scarred, my periods were very painful and would only come out if I went for a run or to the gym. My gynea said it might need to be surgically dilated if I had problems getting pregnant.

In the end I got pg fairly fast (about 4 months) although that did involve me raising my legs up to give it a good shot at getting through my poor old cervix. Pregnancy was fine but I had to have an EMCS as the cervix was too scarred to dilate at all.

For my second pregnancy again I managed to get pregnant (helped by 'handstands') and the consultant said there I could probably go on a trampoline and the baby would stay in. Planned cs second time round, even the midwives said it would have been insane to try and get the baby out naturally. Fine with me Grin.

It's called cervical stenosis IIRC. Apparently a loose cervix is far more common following cell removal treatment (and need a stitch in pregnancy) but some cervix's scar up way too much.

i had a lot of cells removed from cervix about 10 years ago. i had no problem conceiving last year, however, was told that i might need a cervical stitch. now 39 weeks - no problem with cervix throughout pregnancy. tell your friend not to worry about the cervix yet. fallopian tubes adequacy is different issue and she should get the test done if doctors suspect a blockage.. hope it goes well. good luck!

Hi,

I had cervical stenosis and also scar tissue inside the uterus, both caused by (two different) ERPC's though, so not quite the same. The scar tissue on the cervix meant that I had no periods at all as the blood could not get out. Scar tissue on cervix/uterus is also called Ashermans Syndrome and there is a wealth of information about it on this yahoo group.

health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ashermans/

It really is an excellent source of information, the group was started 10 years ago and is now a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping AS sufferers. Absolutely the best source of information for all things related to AS if it turns out that that is what your friend has.

By the way, I had surgery, got my periods back and am now 13 weeks pregnant, so there is a lot that can be done. Smile
