Tesco test's - any good?

I took a tesco cheapy test today and got a BFN. Period was due last Thursday and I have had odd symptoms all week, lots of cramping and then yesterday feeling really sick and dizzy. Just like I did with DS.

Was really surprised that it was a negative. Anyone know if tesco tests are known for not being very sensitive or shall I just expect that I am
not pregnant?

I couldn't find out how sensitive they are and got a bfn yesterday with them am hoping it's wrong, fx for you too x

Most tests are much of a muchness. Generally if your period's late then you can expect most of them (first response, clearblue, supermarket's own, amazon or ebay cheapies, poundland dipsticks etc) to be similarly accurate.

The difference in price is to do with packaging and not a lot else.

bit off topic but where the hell do tesco hide their tests? I was looking for them the other month n couldn't find them! the tesco by me is a giant 24 hr monstrosity so id've thought theyd've had them!

In the pharmacy/meds/toothpaste bit. By the condoms.

A friend of mine got 2 BFN's with tesco tests then use a clear blue digital 4 weeks later. It showed + weeks or something, it turned out she was 8 weeks pg.

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 23/04/2011 15:50

saoirse, do you mean she was 8 wks when she did the clearblue? Isn't surprising at all to get bfns 4 weeks earlier as she'd have only just been pregnant and hcg levels just starting to be detectable on a hpt.

Newgolddream · 23/04/2011 16:12

I think in different people the hcg levels just take a different time to be detected, I had a BFP at 10 DPO with a Tesco test with DS 3 so I like them. But I do think as they all detect the same hormome just at different levels, its trial and error, wait a few days and try again.

Saoirse that would mean she was only 4 weeks when taking the original test wouldnt it, as turtles said only aropund the time hcg can show up for some people.

saoirse86 · 23/04/2011 16:40

Sorry I meant she was 8 weeks pg when she'd done those first 2 tests. I did my test at 8 weeks and it was very quick to turn positive and very dark so it seemed very surprising for her to have done 2 tests and both be negative when she was actually 8 weeks. Confused

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 23/04/2011 16:51

There could be any number of reasons why the tests failed. I doubt it's a problem with Tesco tests though. User error is the usual problem. And very occasionally high levels of hcg cause something called the hook effect whereby if you have a quite concentrated urine sample alongside high hcg levels, you get a false negative.

wideawakenurse · 23/04/2011 17:12

Thanks for all the replies and fingers crossed for you foo goingmad.

Thinking back, I did not test until I was 10 days late with DS, so hcg levels would have been much higher. Think I'll give it a few days and then go for a clear blue superduper one!

clearblue super duper ones not necessary. They're actually less sensitive than some other brands and cost a bloody fortune for a bit of packaging. Don't spend ££ on something you wee on. Poundland tests are 2 for £1 and work just fine.
