Has anyone had follicle tracking? Need some advice

I had a scan on Monday to check everything was okay post-erpc. I said that based on my previous miscarriages I expected to ovulate this weekend. The (expensive private) consultant scanning me said my right ovary looked inactive and my left had a few small follicles but none looked big enough to suggest I would ovulate this weekend. But he did say my lining was a good mid-cycle thickness and I could expect my period in 2-3 weeks.

However that night I got lots of very obvious ewcm.

Then yesterday I felt bloated which I my ovulation day symptom. So on the off chance I did a digital opk which came up positive. And now this morning my temperature has jumped up to it's post-ov range.

Was the consultant wrong? Or is it possible that my body thinks it's ovulated but hasn't (and is just out of sync from the miscarriage)?

The reason I ask is I am due to start steroid treatment to prevent miscarrying again next cycle and I've been told to go back for another mid-cycle scan to check when I'm ovulating as I'm supposed to start the steroids on day of ovulation - but I'm beginning to wonder if the scan will be a waste of money if I know my own body better than the doctors measuring my follicles.

Hi digitalgirl I've had a few follicle tracking / monitoring scans and know I definitely ovulated a few times when I was told there had been no viable follicles (I had ovulation confirmed by blood tests).

My consultant said that predicting ovulation from a scan is not an exact science because, although follicles grow 2mm a day on average, sometimes they can grow faster so a scan can show that there's no dominant follicle but then one springs into action and ovulates. Also, some follicles can pop even if they are less than 18mm (although this means the egg might not be mature enough).

Which cycle day were you on when you had your scan?

I have used OPKs in the past but now rely on EWCM as it is cheaper!

Thanks so much gardenpixie - that's just what I wanted to know.

I'm in a post miscarriage cycle, so it was CD40 but was expecting to ovulate CD45. But it looks like I've ovulated on CD42 - 2 days after the scan. I think it's possible it was an immature follicle as I've never conceived on my previous 3 post-miscarriage cycles (even when timing sex based on ewcm, cervix position and temp charting). But really good to know that I'm probably a better judge of my own body than a scan.

As a rule I don't do OPKs, as I chart all my other fertility signs (cm, cp and bbt). But was curious to know if I was getting an LH surge this cycle.

We start TTC again next cycle and will be taking steroids from ovulation - will cancel expensive scan that I'd booked in for CD14. Thanks again, really helpful.
