Real?
Or at least an indicator that you are indeed ovulating?
Ive been doubled up with what i can only gues is ovulation pains today but im not sure 100% if it is.
Do you get these pains and have you ever used this pain to plan BD?

yes it is real, there is a thread somewhere on Mn,search under "mittelshmerz"which is apparently the name for this awful pain, ive just had a second lot of internal scans for this pain, mine is soooo debilitating ,i have to take tranquilisers for it,lotsb of women get it to varying degree.

Donbean · 01/11/2005 18:40

REALLY!
God, i thought it was just me bieng a freak but its my only explanation as its one side only, is in my back as well but is completely different to period pains.

i've had them since my first period. when ttc we used them as a guide to when i would be ovulating and we only BDed 3 times in the cycle i got pregnant. once very early, once late in the cycle and once when i had the pains.

Donbean · 01/11/2005 18:44

So can i ask you, if we were to BD tonight, would there be a strong chance of concieving do you think?

you can only try!

Donbean · 01/11/2005 18:47

Is it every month for you then because for me its probably one in 3 or so.
Why is it so painful, that question to the lady with the internal scans????? What did the scan show, was it damaged falopian tubes or some thing?

i get it really bad, I had a laproscopy aftr fainting in pain and going into shock a few months ago, it turned out that my ovary had moved (it has no fallopian tube to to a previous ectopic) and it had lodged itself 2.5 inches away to something else, it had led to some internal bleeding...
From charting after ttc no 3 (unsuccessfully) I know that I get the pain toward the end of the ov part of my cycle, cervical mucous (ick) is meant to be a better indicator as it taking temperature.
I still get quite bad ov pain, where I need to take a nurofen etc every month pretty much, but since I had my right ovary sorted in the laproscopy I've had no pain from it in 2 mths...

How do you know that its the end of ovulation piffle? (daft question i know ...sorry)

OP posts:
piffle · 01/11/2005 19:08

because cervical mucous starts earlier and temp goes up earlier etc which technically would mean ovulation occurs on day 13 but I get the pain day 14-16 usually.
If I wanted to conceive I would need to bd on days 10-13 to be in best chance to conceive.
The things you learn on mumsnet LOL
That said its all balls as it hasn't bloody worked

Donbean · 01/11/2005 19:15

Oh right, so it hasnt worked for you. Sorry to sound ignorant but i dont know what has been happening for you.
It will be an interesting experiment for me BUT i havent been taking folic acid solidly for 3 months, more on and off for a few months. This makes me have second thoughts.

Do you think that this matters, im a bit paranoid about it as my last pregnancy was planned down to the last moment.

I get these pains, on about day9 of my cycle, really quite painful in that if I'm walking along I have to stop and wait for them to stop. quite embarrassing if I'm with someone as I don't want to tell them what's wrong! I get them on and off for about two days. I used them last time when we were ttc DD, I'm just come off the pill as we're going to try for no2 soon, and they have started again (I did get pains while I was on the pill, at around about the right time, but they were mild). unlike Piffle, I get them right at the beginning of ovulation, as for me it's usually days 9-13. HTH!

Callmemadam · 06/11/2005 17:06

Hi, I have always got ovulation pain between day 14 and 18. I have conceived all four children on days 16 or 18. I know, because each time was the only risk! . Piffle, if you get ovulation pain you ARE ovulating IMO, and so you need to do it days 14-16 to have the best chance. It was such a good indicator for me that I managed to time each conception for the month I wanted. Donbean, its not unusual for only one ovary to hurt significantly, so it would change from side to side each month.
