Laparoscopic ovarian drilling for pcos

Hi everyone, I have just finished my 3rd unsuccessful cycle of Provera/Clomid and had an appointment with the consultant on Tuesday just gone who put me on the waiting list for a laparoscopy to reduce some of the pressure and testosterone so she said.

Just wondered if anyone had this done or is currently waiting??

Hi I have pcos too and I had ovarian drilling as the first way of treating it instead of clomid. Luckily my parents paid for me to go privately so hospital and doctors etc were all lovely and I had it done very quickly. I went down at 8am and came back an hour later feeling fine and asking for my breakfast. There is pain later when the drugs wear off not due to the operation but because of the gas they pump into you which because of how the nerves are linked actually hurts in your shoulders-hot water bottle really helped with this and keep taking the drugs. I have been left with 3 tiny scars one in my tummy button and one on each side but they are tiny didn't even need stitches just a bit of glue. The other advantages of it is they get to look at everything e.g they found I had mild endo so zapped that while there. One lovely side affect I have had is because of the lowering of testosterone my spots are about 70% better. I had mine done end of Jan and it's most likely to work 3-6 months later so I am hoping for my positive soon. It is meant to have very high success rates. If you have any questions let me know!

Went through what Florin did - unfortunately it did not help me ovulate. So was put on Clomid, ovulated once on the first cycle and then my body went resistant to Clomid too so am now onto IUI.

Thanks for your stories guys, the waiting list is about 12 weeks the consultant said so should be towards the end of june ish... Florin, you said it most likely 3-6 months later?

I had Ovarian Drilling twice - the first time they did a full investigation similar to Florin, with a "fill and spill" whereby they inject dye into the fallopian tubes to check that there are no blockages (ie they fill 'em with dye and wait to see if it spills out the top!). Was off work for around 5 days each time, and post op pain was minimal, just sore and difficult to sit up from lying down for a couple of days.

Frustratingly I was still Clomid resistant after both operations, so ended up having IUI with Menopur, and conceived DD on my second cycle.

Good luck!

My op was very similar to what florin has described.

I had laparscopic ovarian diathermy performed and in my case it was successful in that I went onto conceive a couple of months later. In this op the surgeon punctured the cystic follicles on the ovaries (I have PCOS) and removed some endometriosis as well by laser. The surgeon usually uses an electrical laser or needle for this type of surgery.

Not had exactly the same op, but just wanted to say that peppermint tea is really effective in dealing with the shoulder pain caused by the trapped gas. The gas caused me more after pain than the op each time ( I've had 3 laps and only discovered the tea on the last one!)
