How do you know?!

My period is a week late - I am 35 and haven't got kids yet. We procreated during the recommended fertile period (only once unfortunatley due to work commitments!). I have 'period pains' and feel quite sick but I have done 2 tests and they both came back negative. The last one was this morning. Am I doing something wrong with the test? Should I go to the Doctor? I am very new to all this so any advice would be gratefully received?! I am now stressed because I don't know what to do which may be delaying my period further if I am not pregnant!!!

hello

you cant delay your period as such, but you can delay ovulation. Did anything in particular happen in the first half of your cycle that could have caused your body to say "oh dear I think i'll just wait a few days before ovulating till this gets sorted out!"

Other than that...take another one in a few days! xx

Thanks for this! There is nothing that I can think of - other than being a bit stressed at work. Unfortunately I have been on one form of birth control or another for the majority of my working life so am not sure what affect stress would have! Although I did go through a period of stress - running a conference last year without any noticeable changes. It is so hard as I haven't really paid attention to my 'cycle' before!

Thanks again!

hmmm... this is a bit TMI but have you been checking your cervical mucus? Its the best way to predict when your ovulating I find! xx

also, did u take the preg test with your first wee in the morning as its more concentrated. The only thing to do is to wait a few days and take another test, it may be you need more time for it to show up. i wouldnt bother going to the gp, theres not really anything they can do, other than tell you to wait and retest in a bit. decent supermarket bought tests like clear blue/first response are as sensitive as the ons the gp will have. x

can't guarantee it's the same for you, but i was in your shoes almost this time last year, was 33 then, came off pill, so no idea on my cycles, did it once on valentines day, 2 and a bit weeks later i didn't feel right, i've never had period pains but suddenly had achey tummy, but i tested negative on the Wednesday, but tested positive the following Tuesday :) (so 3 weeks 2 days after doing the deed) so the aches were the stretching pains....and my little boy is 5 months today! fingers crossed you get your BFP soon!

Now officially one week late - did another test this morning and still negative! I am using stick tests that are £2.50 for ten online (they say they are the ones used in the NHS) - would it be worth getting a clear blue from the chemist??
