Hi I've started taking 100mg vit b6 every day to try and extend a short luteal phase. I have just read a medical text which goes on about how great b6 is as it lowers oestrogen and helps with PMT and side effects of the pill. Now I'm worried I shouldn't be taking it for the whole cycle, and just after I've ovulated? If it is anti-oestrogenic then won't it interfere with ovulation? Does anyone else take it just after they've ovulated or for the whole cycle? I'm worried i'll decrease my chances of actually ovulating on what is already a long cycle of about 33 days. I've got about a week until I should ovulate (around day 21) and am now thinking I should take some soy? i feel a lot 'drier' than ususal (sorry if tmi) and am worried it's going to mean I don't ovulate. I think i'm going mad and shouldn't have taken anything :-(

Hi hootie, I don't believe b6 interferes with ovulation and you normally take itt throughout your whole cycle. I was taking 100mg to extend my Luteal phase - it didn't change or do anything for me but it seems to have worked for others on here. It is water soluable and you would have to be taking a he'll of a lot for it to cause any kind of damage. Don't panic!

Hi Hootie I agree with Joy , I don't think it will interfere with ovulation ... my consultant recommended I took it (after I enquired about it thanks to suggestions from other MNers) to extend my luteal phase which has subsequently gone from 11 days to 16; but it hasn't made my ovulation any later.

My consultant told me (in much more medically sophisticated terminology which my little brain can't really remember Blush ) that vit B6 is the raw material for progesterone so if you don't have enough of it in your system, your body struggles to make enough prog; but as it's water soluble, having lots doesn't mean that your body makes too much, you just wee out the stuff you don't need. (Can you tell I'm not a Dr????)

HTH and good luck Smile

Thank you both very much for your advice, it was really very useful. Im going to carry on taking it for this cycle and just see what happens. It's good to know that your consultant was happy with you taking it and there may be some benefit. I'll just have to wait and see! Thanks again
