Anyone here that have pcos, with children already that have been given fertility treatment?
I was lucky and fell for my 3 kiddies with no "help". But have been trying for 2 years for no 4 with no luck. ( Only had one period in 18 months!)
I have been to see gp who run blood tests, and dh has to do a test too, before i can get referred to fertility clinic.
Has anyone been recommended for treatment? Cant bear the thought of not having another child! ( does that sound selfish??)xx

I have PCOS and I have 2 children both conceived via fertility treatment and I too would have loved to have more babies .
The problem is that once you start going down the route of fertility treatment it takes over your life. There are clinic appointments, pills, injections, laparoscopys and scans and blood tests 2 or 3 times a week. I am not trying to put you off but there is a lot to consider and if you feel you can cope with all of this whilst maybe holding down a job and looking after your other kids then go for it cos as you know the end result is fantastic.
I was having fertility treatment for 4 years for my dd and for 3 years to have my ds and whilst the treatment and the disappointment every month was very very hard to cope with my kids are fantastic and outweigh the negative side.
I desparately wanted more kids but when I was on treatment (bearing in mind my youngest is now 5 so things may have changed) I spent so much time at the hospital I just couldn't do it with 2 kids to think about. I would have loved to have been able to do it but I have 2 fantastic kids and a lovely step-son and I just think how lucky I am to have them when some couples who would make fantastic parents have none.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.

Hi thanks for all the info! Im a sahm at the moment, i have two at school already and ds starts next year!
I got put forward for fertility treatment b4 i conceieved dd1, got prescribed clomid, to be honest was a bit scared of taking it! ( left it 6 months, when i went to the follow up appt, i was already 7 weeks pg!)
Just getting fewer and fewer periods, so less chance of conceiving!

I have about 2 periods per year and have not used any kind of contraception since having ds (well not used any for 15 years) in the hope that a miracle would happen and I would get pregnant naturally, but I have just turned 40 so thinking now too old for it to happen now and too old to have anymore anyway .
I had an operation before conceiving ds (it was new then and I was one of the first to have it at the hospital I was attending) called ovarian drilling so it might be an idea to look into this (technical name is ovarian diathermy I think), they do it via laparoscopy and 'drill' holes in your ovaries with a laser and it is supposed to help with ovulation.
Lots of luck to you.

Hi,

I hope you get referred soon.

I also conceived via ovarian diathermy. Its a keyhole surgery operation whereby the surgeon punctures the cystic follicles on your ovaries with an electrical laser or needle.

Verity's website www.verity-pcos.org.uk is useful for all PCOS patients and I would recommend you have a look at it. Verity is the UK based organisation for women with PCOS.

On a general point if you can try and keep within the correct weight range for your height this will benefit you as well. With PCOS it is easy to put on weight but very hard to shift. A low GI eating plan may be helpful too if you can follow such a thing.

What were you symptons Goldilocks ?
I have been to GP yesterday - she thinks I have PCOS.
Awaiting blood tests next week.
We have ds 21 mths.
Suddenly got very hairy.
And put on weight - two dress sizes in a month and since been unable to shift it.
But,my periods are regular as clockwork- always have been - I thought irregular was one of the main characteristics ?

goldiilocks · 27/10/2005 13:22

Very irregular periods, like maybe one a year if im lucky! Not really hairy as such! Have put on about a stone and a half for no reason! dizzy spells, nausea!
Ifound out i had it when i was 16
