Chemical pregnancy: how long until symptoms stop? And is it a waste of NHS resources to bother my GP with this?

I tested early, like the idiot I am, and had 2 vfps. Then I had 2 bfns, including a Clearblue Digital (first thing in the morning) yesterday. My period was due today and I have had a tiny bit of spotting, so any idea that I'm still pregnant would be pretty much delusional.

Today I have been feeling more and more pregnant: sore breasts, nausea (been sick twice), no appetite, sense of smell like a sniffer dog and tired as hell. This is obviously getting on my rack.

What I suppose I really want to know is: when will the fucking pointless pregnancy symptoms stop and do I need to see a doc for any reason?

Please excuse the angry tone of the OP: I didn't realise it sounded that arsey until I posted. My chocolate icecream levels are a bit low.

I can understand you feeling a little arsey and pissed off. I would be too. Its horrid when you don't know whats going on with your body.

If it was me, I would give it a few more days, and wait for AF. If it doesn't arrive, do another test. You never know, the spotting could be implantation, and the BFN's because the HCg is too low. Or it could be the VFPs were false (chemical) and the spotting is the start of AF. I know its awful but there isn't really much else you can do.

Oh and if after a few days there is still no AF and BFN, I would pop to the GP for a blood test

open - i have had a couple of these - normally i am about a week late. IME the gp will look vacant and shrug if you go.

Ok so maybe not quite but if you are worried go!

Hope that helps....

V sorry to hear you're going through this. I would see the GP, and get this on your medical records, so that if you needed further investigation in the future you've got this all logged. V best of luck.

openerofjars · 24/03/2011 10:55

Thanks, ladies. I am still puking today but I am due to see a gynae consultant at the hospital on Tues for investigation into pain I have been having for the last year or so anyway: do you reckon I should see my GP as well? Will the system copy the info across?

I ve had 2 CPs and never seen my gp.I have started my period about a week late after having faint positives only.At EPU they say they don t count CPs as i ve never required medical intervention, unlike the MCs i ve had.
Take care.X

I've made a GPs appointment: the worst they can do is give me a blank look and then bollock me for wasting their time. BagofHolly, I think your idea about getting it logged is a good one.

Thanks all, and thanks for sharing your experiences. I am sorry you had to go through them, too.

Don't expect your GP to actually pass this information on to anyone else though; GPs and hospitals are notoriously bad at communicating. Given you're barfing and feeling horrible the GP appt is a good plan anyway. Tis utterly shit you're having to go through this.

I've had one CP and wasn't actually that late but when it arrived it arrived like the proverbial red tide of doom - I didn't go to the GP as wasn't having any sickiness or symptoms though.

Hey, sorry to hear about this, openerofjars. I had two CPs over the last 12 months. The first one was a while ago, the very first month I started ttc. I was very excited - I only had a vague line, but more like a smudge - the worse thing was the dark brown spotting which went on for about 10 days (quite a lot really, with cramps etc - no puking though). I was so worried I went to the GP to ask for advice and it was useless. She just told me to do another test in 10 days and forget about it. I then had my period 10 days late - bright red - lasted for 1 day only. I had another CP a couple of months ago, I didnt go to the GP at all but I happened to see the gynecologist anyway for a fertility appt and she acknowledged what it was. No one wanted to log it though. Too early.

Let us know what happens and whether you get your period or not though. You never know...!

openerofjars · 24/03/2011 20:36

Period turned up this afternoon, hooray! Glad that's that, really, and I'm not in some kind of limbo. And I haven't been sick again. God, that was vile, though. I've had morning sickness before, but this just felt so pointless.

Thanks so much for all the support. I really appreciate it. Onwards to greater things, like the takeaway DH is out getting. And here's to TTC this cycle.
