I went to see my doctor today after having blood tests done and i still have low progesterone.

Am i right in thinking there is a progesterone cream? If yes, what is it's name?

Also is there absolutely nothing i can take to help my periods to come along?

I had some brown blood and clots around the 22nd Feb only once when i wiped with a tissue, nothing since. Could this mean that i may or may not get a period this month if i had a show last month?

I'm feeling a bit desperate. :(

Hi

Sorry I'm not sure I really understand your post. Have you been having your progesterone levels tested 7 DPOs ? You are right that you can get progesterone creams and also pessaries.

Are you not having periods? If you have low progesterone levels and not having proper periods this would indicate ovulation problems of some kind and your GP really ought to be referring you for further testing. Is this just a recent problem or has it been triggered by something that you know of?

Hello Helen, thank you for posting.

I am not having any periods.

I was on implanon least year, had it removed, had 2 periods then went onto take cerazette for 2 months, then finished that in december.

I have not had periods since. Only the brown blood and the 2 clots around the 22nd Feb (which im not really sure what to call!)

If you are not ovulating then your progesterone will be low, as it is produced by the remains of the follicle that releases the egg - so it is a symptom not a cause, and prog creams, pessaries etc won't help. Sounds like you need tests to see if there is a reason you are not ovulating - for example PCOS.

I did ask about PCOS when i went to see the doctor and he said that because my other 2 hormone levels were in the ranges that I couldnt have it.

I guess i'll try asking the doctor tomorrow (2nd opinion) if she can refer me for tests on why i am not ovulating.

Utrogestan vaginal suppositories are excellent and a natural form of progesterone. Sold over the counter in many European countries and Russia. It is very common in Europe, the problem is that UK doctors are very reluctant on usage of hormones in general until one has tried for years and/or had several miscarriges... just an observation... There is also Progestogel (natural form of progesterone; gel); sold in France, Spain, Greece and Russia.
You can try Agnus Castus and Evening Primrose oil if you cannot get progesterone suppositories. These work for some people to normalise cycle and promote general hormonal balance/ menstrual health, however, no scientific proof of increasing progesterone per say. As with any herbal supplements, one has to be very patient -- might take many months for them to work. Also, need to take these consistently.

Hi Glamimel,

re your comments:-

"I did ask about PCOS when i went to see the doctor and he said that because my other 2 hormone levels were in the ranges that I couldnt have it.

What other hormone levels were tested and on which days?. If a day two LH/FSH comparison test was not done the test result is meaningless. LH and FSH always need to be compared as these can look okay if looked at separately.

"I guess i'll try asking the doctor tomorrow (2nd opinion) if she can refer me for tests on why i am not ovulating".

This is a very good idea. You need to be persistant in order to get answers. Something is causing the lack of periods. It is all too easy to be fobbed off.

Would be very wary about self medicating with Agnus castus as in some cases it can make underlying hormonal imbalances worse.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Many thanks for your responses. Yet again I was fobbed off, told to come back in 3 months time if I still havent had a period. And they'll think about referring me around September to look further into whats going on.

They have said because Im not having periods they dont know where I am in my cycle. Ive had 2 blood tests now and they have mentioned both time about day 21.

I believe the other hormones they tested were the LH and FSH. Both were within the ranges.
