Ovarian cysts and irregular cycles, but hormone levels normal - what now?

It's all in the subject, really.

FSH is 5.1, LH is 6.1.

Testosterone is 1.1

Doctor says that although I have cysts, the results suggest no PCOS. She won't refer me to a specialist until we've been trying for a year and says that I shouldn't worry too much in the meantime. Agreed that it's frustrating not being able to predict when ovulation is happening, but says that in all likelihood it is happening.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I have been in a very similar situation, however managed to get the periods regular - have you tried agus castus or B6 to try and get a 'natural' route to regular cycles?

Did they measure your prolactin levels at all?

ChateauMargot · 08/03/2011 17:50

Thanks, SBC. I'm looking at my test results now but can't see any mention of prolactin...

Haven't tried agus castus or B6 yet - did these work for you? Any side effects?

Have just looked into AC - sounds promising! Is it safe to take with folic acid? Am on Pregnacare pre-conception right now...

I haven't had any side effects with them - if you do a search for agnus castus/vitex and/or B6 there are many people that have used it on here and elsewhere on the web.

I've just stopped taking them as have been given medication for the prolactin so don't want to rattle so much! But throughout taking I have been regular as clockwork

The prolactin is a side effect of polycystic ovaries generally, but the stress of TTC plays havoc!

Have you been using ovulation tests to see when/if it is happening?

ChateauMargot · 08/03/2011 18:06

I tried ovulation tests for a month or so but reckon they're not much use in my case - cycles can be up to 50 days long, which makes it tricky to time right (and expensive!)
