When to start TTC? - Due Dates

Good Afternoon ladies.

I am WTTC so have many questions this is one of them!

I have LTI (long term illness) so this is a particularly vexing question for me. In terms of health I am better in the summer so I am thinking of a spring baby BUT I was a September baby (but was due in August) and it made a big difference to me in school especially considering my LTI which i went down with when I was in my pre-teens causing me to barely attend secondary school. So I have a dilemma. I know I cannot ultimately decide when my child will be conceived/born but surely it is a consideration.

Do other people have an idea of when they want their child to be born and why?

Hi there, not sure what your LTI illness is or how it affects you, but I would say that I initially didn't want to be at my biggest during the summer months for fear of overheating, but in the end (after a failed spring baby) I had my DD in August. I would now say I prefer summer births because it is nicer for the night feeds not to be freezing cold when you have to get out of bed, and also my worry about being big/hot in the summer wasn't so bad as I found pregnancy summer clothes (i.e. linen trousers rather than jeans) way more comfortable as I got bigger. Right now though I am getting on a bit and want No.2 so not really fussed as the early months are so short lived that I don't really think it makes that much difference.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Well, we always wanted our baby to be born in the summer for parties in the garden etc and our first born was BUT that was purely luck.

Now we have been ttc for 16 months, had 5 mcs and quite frankly could give a fiddlers fart when we have a baby, we now just want one.

I suppose what i am saying is that it really doesnt matter any more. We went through the whole trying at certain times of year to ensure a "conveninet" birth date, but sometimes it just doesnt work out like that.
Looking back i was most disapointed with the presumption that it would all be in such a planned and calculated way, you really cant presume anything in this game. Sad
Have to say that financially we neevr wanted a baby born around Christmas, but now i would be overjoyed to have one anytime of year.
fingers majorly crossed for a bfp soon for you x

we need to avoid christmas if possible as husband is self employed and this is his busiest time. we're going to start ttc in may/june time so we have nine month to ttc at a "convenient" time. if im not preg in 9 months of ttc i wont give a rats arse abou christmas and will just want a baby, o i agrre with you- you can make token effort at timing, but ultimately babies are unpredictable.

In terms of health for your baby, spring is good because they are less likely to catch colds/viruses when they are tiny. You have to think about what's best for baby but also for you so tbh I think all times/seasons have advantages/disadvantages. For me, summer would be better only because being the same dress size as my sister means I'd get lots of free summery maternity clothes!
I feel for kids born during exam season or around Christmas, I was an August baby and while I was always on holiday for my birthday (nice!) I had the disadvantages of always having to get up with everyone who has a birthday over the entire summer (something which always grieved me) I was also quite socially delayed and struggled with that side rather than the academic in school.
When we started TTC we used to look forward 9 months to the possible due date but now it's been over a year we just want a baby!! Don't care when!! Just hope every month for that bfp!

All 3 of mine are autumn babies but that's because I'm a teacher and I knew it gave them that little extra advantage.

However, I must state that I fell pregnant very easily each time and so I had the luxury of being choosy. Had we struggled, I'm quite sure the planning would have gone out the window. Smile
Good Luck.

Hi there,

I'm not sure what your LTI is and whether it would have any impact on TTC, but I am with cherrychoo here - TTC is such an unpredictable process, the less pressure you put on yourself to 'succeed' by a particular deadline, the better.

We have been trying for 18 months, 2 mcs and now a diagnosis of a possible fertility problem, so a baby any time would be our greatest wish fulfilled. It's incredibly sensitive and organised of you to think of the impact of birthday on the baby, but I'm sure you'd find a way to minimise any possible negative effects in the event.

I initially put pressure on myself to be pregnant within four months, and got myself into a proper state. With 18 months hindsight and everything we've been through, I really wish I hadn't got my knickers in a twist so soon about getting pregnant in a timeframe (namely one Toni Weschler gives in TCOYF - an amazing book, but one that can seriously raise your expectations of a realistic conception time, I found).

Anyway, wishing you all the best of luck. My only advice would be to get on with it ASAP and see what happens. Enjoy trying Wink
