Welcome Teds
I'm not sure if ours has been a typical experience but we got details of our info evening and first appt all through at the same time. Guys hold info evenings once a month so they try to get you on one before your appt but don't seem to mind if it's just after.
Our first appt was with a consultant who went through DH and my medical history. Then DH had to give a sperm sample and have a blood test; and I had an internal scan to check my uterus and ovaries. I've had a million of these done now but they still wanted an up to date one.
I needed an up to date LH / FSH test so had to wait until my next CD3 (which I hope will be this Friday).
They will also check DH and me for Hep B and C and HIV; and they check women for rubella immunity.
Assuming all those are fine, you are given a drugs and appointment schedule that starts on the first CD21 after you've been given the go ahead. Most of the scans and appts are then with the nurses (the consultants do the collection and embryo transfers but not the monitoring - although they keep an eye on the scans once they've been done)
I have PCO so I am going to have to go in for scans at least every other day during the stimulating phase but I think most women just have two or three scans during the 12 / 14 days you need to take them.
You're then given instructions on when to take an LH trigger injection and 24 / 36 hrs after that, they collect the eggs and DH's contribution. Guys does this under sedation so you don't need to stay overnight although DH will need to be around to pick you up and make sure you get home.
After that they let the eggs rest over night and then introduce them to the sperm (I like to think of this being done over champagne and canapes
) ... and then it's a waiting game to see how many fertilise. If two fertilise, they transfer both on the second day after egg collection, if more than two fertilise, they wait to see which ones progress faster and either transfer the two best ones on the third day after collection or wait until the fifth day when hopefully you'll have one or more blastocysts (by this stage there is a 50% chance of pregnancy).
They prefer to transfer one blastocyst if the woman has a high chance of falling pg but can transfer two if that's what you want.
Does that help? Sorry it's a bit of a ramble.
Do you know what cycle day your appt fall on? If you wanted to speed things up, you could make sure all your blood tests have been done within the last 6 months (although it sounds like they have) and then you can hit the ground running, so to speak!
You might well be starting the drugs on the first CD21 after your appt so although it might seem a long way away, they move quickly once you're in the system.
FWIW I had loads of blood tests done (thyroid, triglycerides, etc etc) when I was seeing a consultant who put me on clomid but the people at Guys don't worry too much about anything other than the basics simply because they control all the relevant hormones throughout the process and during the first trimester of pregnancy so they were very disinterested in most of my results!
Do shout if I've missed anything out and sorry for such a long post. I am hoping AF will start tomorrow so we might all be starting at the same time.
Carebear have you started the downregs yet?
Luck how are you doing? Hope you're well.
Womanly I am keeping my fingers tightly crossed that AF hasn't started yet and that you get a BFP before starting on the FSH again
Sorry for mammoth post ladies! Love to everyone xxx
