How to work out ovualtion date with a longer cycle

My sisters cycle was every 28 days but for the last three months she has been on average 10 days late so does that mean her cycle has now changed to 38 days or is it too soon to say?

Problem is she is ttc and she wants to work out her ovulation date with her new cycle.

with a 28 day cycle i know your ovulation date is roughly 14 days after the first day of your period and i am aware this is a very rough guide and they only real way is my monitoring your temp etc but as a "rough" guide would her ovualtion date still be 14 days with a 38 day cycle???

so she should still aim around 14 after her period?

No, she may very well ovulate at a different time. It's really individual.

But she could try temp charting - or use ov predictor sticks for a month.

If her cycle continues to be as irregular as it is now then I would suggest that she has a blood test done to see if there are any underlying hormonal imbalances causing these.

Very long cycles can also be anovulatory in nature i.e no ovulation has occured that particular month.

If her cycles continue to be irregular then temp charting is not going to be of any benefit to her.

The best ways of knowing when you ovulate is to use temperature charting or Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPKs).

The "average" woman has a 28 day cycle, with ovulation on day 14. The "average" time between ovulation and period is 14 days.

However, not all of us are average.

If you have sex every 2-3 days throughout your cycle you'll have a better chance of getting pregnant than if you assume you ovulate at a particular time.

Hugs,
Artoo.

However, OPK's and the like are of no real benefit if periods are irregular in nature and have been so for a long time.

Would certainly agree with the comment written about having intercourse two or three times a week throughout the cycle.

I am TTC and I have just come on today making this cycle a record 36 day cycle! So I fully intend to have sex as regularly as possible over the next 4 weeks to have every chance of concieving. Got pregnant last time before even having a period, I've got a feeling this time ain't going to be so easy......

Best advice I had was that ov is usually 14 days before but if you start bd 3 or days before and 1 day after there is usually a good result
