Hi im pretty new here and have been reading quite a bit but have not managed to grasp the context of some of the post ie opk?
hope some one would be able to help me out.

Any way i have been ttc for 2 years almost now no luck as yet my gp wont reffer me yet.

My last period was 8th feb although it was 6 days early was due 14th, have only done the deeds with partner twice this month (20 and 21st) and am next due on 5th march but am having some symptons ie my boobs the last few days are really tender and im really tired.
could i be pregnant or am i just wishing i have done 7 pregnancy test and all have been negative if i was pregnant would it show this early?

hi, welcome to mn. i understand your frustration, but you need to stop testing. test on the 5th when your period is due. tests are shockingly inaccurate until 14dpo.

why wont your gp refer you?

Hi lissielou,

thanks im just desperate to see those 2 blue lines need to try and take my mind off it.

my gp wont refer me as we already have 2 children and said that if we have made 2 sucessful children then there is nothing to say we wont have another it just a matter of timing and good practise!!

right, your gp is being a twat. go back and insist on bloods. secondary infertility is v common and your fertility declines v quickly. if he still wont refer you, change doctors.

i know how you feel, been ttc #2 for nearly 6y now, but early testing is a v bad idea. hpts are only 53% accurate 10dpo. plus, the only thing worse than a bfn is a bfp followed by a bfn. you should tell your gp that your cycles are becoming irregular too.

Hi fertility changes during your life time - i took 5 months to conceive my first pregnancy. This ended in miscarriage and it took well over 12 months to get pregnant again - the reason for that was likely to be because i was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid (brought on by 1st pregnancy) which can lower fertility - my doctor was the same - didn't want to do bloods as i was only 26 but my thyroid came back as a problem (quite unusual at my age). Its definitely worth having bloods to rule out something like this - once sorted i conceived my second child in 3 months. Also don't wish to get personal but it may be worth ovulation and timing sex around then! - i used numarks own brand (only £6) every month so i knew exactly when i was ovulating. I never experienced any pregnancy symptoms until i was 7 weeks with either. Most doctors recommend sex every other day when trying to conceive - although i know its off putting when timing it!

sorry meant buying ovulation tests as people often think they ovulate 14 days after the start of a period but its actually 14 days before the start of the next period - so a 30 day cycle - ovulate typically day 16. You may already know all this but i found the strips really useful!

oh, also doctor told me that regular intercourse is best rather than restraining and saving for mid cycle as the supply is not as fertile if left to build up!

Check out the website Access Diagnostics for inexpensive opks (ovulation predictors), like people have said timing is crucial - even if you time it right there is only a 25% chance of falling pregnant I read somewhere, so its important to get the timing right.

Charting is a good way of getting to know your body to and fertlity and ovulation signs, the website Fertility Friend lets you plot these and is free.
