Bicornuate Uterus - Any Experiences?

I am writing this as my dear friend has now lost 4 babies and I am hoping that there are some stories here that can give her reassurance that it can all work out :(

She was told she had a bicornuate uterus when pregnant for the first time 6 years ago. Sadly she lost that baby at 16 weeks due to her waters breaking. Her second pregnancy ended at 18 weeks for the same reason so they started to investigate. They did an xray of the uterus at her local hospital and said it was not too severe so decided to do a cervical stitch with the next pregnancy. This did not work and she lost her third baby at 18 weeks.

She was referred to St Marys in London to Rai and for her fourth pregnancy they did a double stitch. This seemed to work but very very sadly at her 24 week scan they said the baby had stopped growing and had died :( He had died on the day she turned 24 weeks so was considered stillborn.

She has been back to the consultant who after the results of the postmortem said that she had blood clotting disorder that led to slowing of growth in the placenta and the baby. She had been taking aspirin and progesterone in this last pregnancy.

Anyway last week she had an xray at St Marys so they could double check the uterus in case her local hospital had gotten it wrong. It seems that her bicornuate is severe - more of a V than a Y shape and they struggled to see the right horn. They are talking about surgery plus herceptin for the next pregnancy.

She is so brave and has not lost hope even though she feels that there is lots wrong with her :( I know they want to try again as soon as possible as she is worried about her age and wants everything to be fresh in the consultants mind.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone had a positive story? It breaks my heart to see everything she and her DH have been through and if they end up unsuccessful at the end of this it would be devasting. Has anyone been through something similar?

Yes, I have a positive story! Smile

I have a bicornate uturus (not as severe as your friend's though) but have 2 lovely dc. After a mc, my ds and dd were both born prem at 35 weeks (waters broke with ds at 27 weeks - so it was all very hairy there on in).

All the best to your friend - there's always hope.
