healthy alternatives

Having ttc for the best part of a year now and am currently making a renewed stab at healthiness - lots of fruit and steamed veg, lots of fibre etc etc but there are 2 things I'm struggling on and was wondering if you lot could help with some healthy alternatives?

Firstly I want to cut out tea. I drink 2-3 cups a day and would like to cut it out completely. I did switch to chamomile vanilla and honey but subsequently read something about too much chamomile being a cause of lost pregnancies and so that has seriously put me off. I don't like green tea and I find most herbal teas a bit bland. Oh and decaffinated tea has loads of chemicals in it for the decaffinating process as far as I know so don't really want to go there either! Please help me find a nice alternative as I am stuck!

Second thing is what to eat for breakfast on work days (3 days per week). I need something I can stick on my bag and eat when I get there, can't do cereal or toast. I usually grab a banana but its not enough!

I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

Where did you read that about chamomile? Lots of different teas out there to try, Fennel is really nice. Redbush or licorice are others to try. But there are loads. I dont like the fruity herbal teas.

can't remeber where I read it first but then made the fatal mistake of googling it...

Redbush sounds interesting, is that the one that is caffeine free?

Just googled chamomile, fennel and green tea. Some sites say fine and others say not. Very confused, I might be sticking to hot water for now

Redbush is caffiene free

i have green tea with lemon, hate green tea but this seems to taste alot nicer...
Also breakfast on the run, granola, chopped brazil nuts and greek yogut in a seally tub, i have to eat on the run and that seems to work for me....

Good luck x

How about peppermint tea? I drink loads of that (have been TTC for 3 1/2 yrs now).

Also I make microwave porridge (Oat so Simple) in a sealable tub and wrap it in a tea towel before I leave for work and eat it on the train, it stays warm for ages. Just don't forget your spoon!!!

Re chamomile tea - I read that too, in relation to the herb. But I then read that in tea it's so diluted that it's not a problem. Hard to know what's right isn't it?

I have lemon & ginger tea which I really like (reminds me, need to buy more).

When I just can't resist a latte (my main downfall) I have a decaff latte (but not very often as I know all those chemicals used to make decaff stuff are bad).

Could you make some kind of healthy granola bar or muffins for breakfast?

LoveInAColdClimate · 22/02/2011 08:51

Peppermint or ginger tea (can make the latter with ground or fresh ginger - yum).

NinjaChipmunk · 22/02/2011 09:00

I'm trying some redbush earl grey as we speak. Is quite nice in a wierd slightly smoky way. We'll see how that one progresses.

Muffins could be a good idea as you can freeze them can't you? maybe fruit and wholemeal flour could be a good combo. Many thanks for the thoughts on this, will dig out some peppermint tea too I think.

I?m doing the same Nija, cutting out the tea is hard. I mc in dec but also read while pg that too much a quite a few herbal teas are bad. I moved to fresh lemon and ginger in water until someone told me the acid in the lemon is bad for your teeth?.. there?s always something!

Yes Redbush is caffeine free and you can have it with milk if you like to have that tea 'feeling'....although it does look a little florescent!

However clipper do a great organic decaf tea in unbleached bags so the are without all the chemicals. They are about £2.50 for a bag of 40 so a bit expensive for tea, but if you?re like me and need your tea, I think they are worth it. You can get them in Holland and Barrett.

I knew I'd seen an article about green tea somewhere: this will probably just confuse further.

Hot water it is then Wink!

I posted too soon:

The main thing I'm trying to cut out is aspartame. If you google it really is awful stuff! It's a bit tricky when dieting, but I'm getting there.
