Ovulation before day 14: good/bad?

Hi there! Been ttc for 14 months now. No babies yet. Both in late thirties. Cycle 28 days without fail. Been using OPKs. Normally smiley face appears on cd14. This month it smiled on cd11. Is that good or bad? Fertility tests came back fine on both of us. We don't want to go down IVF route or IU: with the NHS as it stands we want to let more deserving people receive treatment as we are blessed with lots of god children, nephews and nieces. Also both of us too chicken to put ourselves through the torturous path that is fertility treatment. Having said all that desperate for a child of our own NATURALLY.
Thanks in advance.

It does not really make any difference!

Though for me the first time I noticed I ov'd early I got pregnant with my first pregnancy! So I hope it happens for you too!!

Newgolddream · 19/02/2011 08:56

It doesnt make any difference, I ovulate on anything from Day 11-17 and wouldnt know unless I was charting so miss the fertile window. Good luck!

pecka33 · 19/02/2011 09:23

have you read the book taking charge of your fertility, its a real eye opener....
Like you i also am a regular 28 dayer, and ovulate any day from 11-14, so i thought??
Ive been using ov sticks to pin point when i ov but aparantly thats not a sure why of knowing, only charting can tell.....
So this month im starting charting, im on day 4 of my period, so im hoping this months the month, took me 18 months to get pg with my first which ended as a mmc in sept 10, and nothing since so 5 months of ttc action...

Good luck. X

Thanks girls! Was getting quite worried. Sorry about your mc Pecca.
Hope some of your luck rubs off onto me Galwaygal! Newgold: thanks for the reassurance.
Feeling much calmer now I know it's normal!
Cheers!

Means beggar all.

Just bear in mind that opks don't show you're ovulating. The smiley face is just a detection of a hormonal surge that precedes ovulation. Taking Charge Of Your Fertility is a great book, I definitely agree.

It's normal for it to take 1-2yrs to get pregnant, please don't be disheartened.

And fertility investigations start small. They'd check you were ovulating first and if you aren't, they can do things to help with that. It's not no conception in 14 months, proceed straight to invasive fertility measures. But this might all be irrelevant, it sometimes just takes a year or so to get there.

Thankyou Showofhands. Hope you're right: on the fact that it can take a while to fall pregnant. We'll certainly consider going for a few more detailed tests if still nothing happening in next 6 months or so. Just don't want to set ourselves up for a fall while wasting valuable resources. x

Quick update: tested this morning: BFP! Thanks for your kind thoughts.
Galwaygal: thanks for sharing your experience: seems that earlier ovulation has led to pregnancy for both of us, Thankyou for your kind wishes! Just hope it goes to term: bad period like cramps over the past few days have turned me crazy! x

congratulations! cramps are normal in the early days (implantation etc), and some people get them on and off all through the first trimester as things stretch in your tummy. good luck and look after yourself its going to be a tiring few months ahead! x
