That;s it really, when you get the egg sign, does that mean YOU ARE ovulating, or YOU WILL BE ovulating in that mysterious 12-48, but probably 36 hours ?

ALso, when is the best time to do it ? ie obviously as soon as it is red would be good (but what it's you're out of energy), so would it be the day before the egg shows, the day the egg shows ?

Have sucessfully concieved twice before, but have had a miscarriage & confidence has gone

JAG123 · 16/10/2005 10:27

Thanks for doing the link Munz. I feel i a bit guilty that i got it so cheap. I think that is prob that there were quite a few on there and she must have just been overlooked (cept by me). She has just sent me a mess to say it is being posted tomorrow so i should get it soon.
Just 2 quick questions are they easy to reset & do you start from CD1?

Mojomummy · 16/10/2005 14:16

you can start from day 5, but that is the latest. I started using mine again by pressing the M button to day 5, BUT at 8am that day - this gives you a testing window, so if you wake aroun 6 am or 10 am you still get the orange flashing light if you need to test. Recommend you read the website though...

OP posts:
munz · 16/10/2005 14:20

to completely reset - I had to hold the open button in and the 'm' button in until all the symols came up on the screen then it flashes CD1 (as MM says u can keep the button in if u wish until CD5 max) the window thingy's important thou.

JAG123 · 16/10/2005 19:33

Persona works fantastically well for conceiving! You have to use it regularly for several months at least & then go at it like rabbits the day before the egg shows and the day the egg shows. Sperm can survive up to 72 hours in the womb.

Both my babies were conceived thanks to dear old Persona.

Mojomummy · 16/10/2005 23:06

...in fact you don't have to use it for several months at all. I lent mine (when I was pregnant) to my friend. She became pregnant the first month of using it AFTER using ovo sticks for 11 months

Persona shows your red days which is a result of the chemical/hormone which rises just before ovulation. If used correctly & you have a regular cycle, then there is no reason you won't see yourself ovulation on the first attempt.

Be aware of not over wetting the stick - it's happened before & now I also collect urine & dip the stick in for 15 secs

Mojomummy,

Re your comment:-
"Persona shows your red days which is a result of the chemical/hormone which rises just before ovulation"

That's just the thing - a rise in LH (luteinising hormone) if this is what this kit measures does not automatically mean that ovulation will follow. Also women can have more than one rise in LH levels each month.

It would only be useful in some circumstances e.g if the menstrual cycle was regular.

Mojomummy · 17/10/2005 19:38

recommend BD as soon as the red days show, which for me is as early as day 6. I've only ever had one 'set' of red days & tend to ovulate quite early. This is on the assumption that the egg day & symbol means you are actually ovulating, rather than within next 24-48 hours which I understand the ovo sticks predict.

Meerkatsunite not sure I understand what you are saying - do you mean you can ovulate twice in a month or you can have a couple of LH rises & only one ovulation ?

Agree Persona is only good for regular cycles - I think they have to be within 35 days length ?

OP posts:
MeerkatsUnite · 17/10/2005 20:29

Hi Mojomummy,

A woman can have more than one rise in LH levels each month (such rises are not always followed by ovulation). If ovulation occurs it happens once.

Ovulation can also occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

Wuld agree with your second paragraph - they are only really useful if such cycles are regular in nature. A normal cycle is defined as a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days variation from month to month.

With best wishes

Meerkats

Hi Meerskateunite - I'm just a little concerned because I am TTC after a miscarriage, so using persona to identify my fertile times - don't have the energy to BD everyother day ; - )

So, last month had a late OVO, long cycle (30days) & missed 'fertile' time by being stingy with my tests
This month, OVO on day 9 ( was very surprisd & had to hop into bed before )& concerned that may have missed it again....definetely had the CM early though...

Anyway, my point it - I won't be ovo-ing again this month, will I ? & if I do have a LH surge, it's not going to be followed by anothere OVO ?

Why are our bodies so complicated ?!

OP posts:
MeerkatsUnite · 18/10/2005 12:30

Hi Mojomummy,

From what I've read intercourse two or three times a week throughout the cycle is fine. Generally speaking it is certainly a bad idea to rigourously time intercourse.

A cycle length of 30 days is within normal limits
but there should be less than 4 days variation from month to month.

I would have thought that day 9 was a LH surge and such surges are not automatically followed by ovulation. If you do ovulate chances are it will be later on this month.

Having said all that thought, the surest way you will know you have ovulated or otherwise is to have a blood test done to measure your hormone levels (in this regard your LH, FSH and progesterone levels should be tested). LH and FSH levels are usually tested earlier in the cycle (day 3) and progesterone is done later (day 21 is a standard test in this regard and this can be done later than that date).

Hope this helps.

Afternoon girls - I'll share my experience which may help.

I used PERSONA for a couple of years as a method NOT to get pregnant, then I used it to try and get pregnant. I had sex the first time it showed as a red day the egg thing showed the next day - and I got pregnant - dd is now one and 2 weeks. As I was breastfeeding I didn't get around to using PERSONA straight away (or have sex - but that is because of my birth experience )

When I did stop bf, I intended to wait for a couple of 'normal' periods before using PERSONA but never got around to doing it - thinking "I know my cycle - I'm only fertile around day 13 - 15". So I had sex on what I thought was day 17 - and I'm now 26 weeks pregnant with dd2

Therefore, remember fertile times change - so don't assume it is always the same.

I found PERSONA worked for me - and I'm "old" at 38 so expected to take ages to conceive etc. HTH

Mojomummy · 18/10/2005 12:55

Hi Meerskatunite, been trying to understand what is going on with my body - I believe I DID ovo because from day 6 I had the (yuk) egg white CM - this is a very good sign ovo is coming ? I'm now on the creamy (yuk) CM, so believe ovo is over for this month (please let it be !)

I've charted my periods & ovo dates for about 2 years on my work calendar (which someone has recently thrown away) - sucessfully conceived twice on first attempts & then had a miscarriage so desperation & irrationality has set in !
I'm going to buy a thermometer today..
