Getting desperate - will acupuncture work??

Ladies

I am getting desperate - nothing seems to work and of course, the longer it's taking to conceive, the more pressure I'm feeling, the more stressed I am and of course, the harder it is.

I am currently doing / taking / having:

  • 1500mg metformin per day
  • Agnus Castus
  • Low GI Diet
  • More exercise than ever before

Thinking of doing acupuncture too - anyone done this with a positive outcome?

Stories welcomed!

Have you ever thought of reflexology ? I tried this after trying to concieve for almost a year #2 and a month after I started it I fell pregnant ! I don't know if it worked or it was a coincidance but it is worth a try ! As long as there is nothing medically wrong that would stop you concieving if you ask the reflexoligist that you are trying for a baby she can concentrate on the womb area to help balance it and prepare it for pregnancy. Good Luck ! Grin

Aha - brilliant idea! Will give it a google! To be honest, I am prepared to try anything! I have PCOS however so not sure how effective it is for that.....

I have PCOS. Did reflexology for a few months. Nada. Although it was nice, thought I'd save the money. But then clomid not making me pg yet either!

Good luck anyway!

I also have PCOS and have been trying acupuncture. It has not worked yet - but I do find going de-stresses me and its good to talk to someone. Aparently she sees another lady with PCOS and she has just got pregant - could be a coincidence though...

We conceived our first after 10 months, mc'd at 11 weeks, then had acupuncture for three months and got pregnant again first month of trying (I was 36 and DH 41, so not spring chickens!), the result of which is now 22 mo. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but, as HallieGirl says, the de-stressing and listening elements were invaluable. Definitely worth a try, I'd say. I'd can recommend someone if you're in London and anywhere near Hackney or Blackheath.

How long has it been, LaraMi?

I know from friends that acupuncture does seem to help with regulating hormones, lengthening Luteal Phase, etc. I'd say go for it - can't hurt (more than a tiny prick of course!)

Thanks Ladies! Been trying for about a year - got pregnant in Aug then mc'd at 9 weeks. Just so frustrating as I can't tell when I'm ovulating as my cycles are so irregular. Thanks for recommendation of a name daisyj - I am a south Londoner (Streatham Hill) and actually have an appt for this evening. I just wanted to get some opinions before I went ahead with it!

Sorry about your mc Sad. Good luck - come back and let everyone know if it works well - I could do with another plan if my own babyfailure carries on much longer!

daisyj · 09/02/2011 15:26

Ah, a fellow South Londoner! Very best of luck to you LaraMi - sounds as if acupuncture could be perfect for you. I don't know if it helps or not, but I did take comfort from the fact that at least my body knew how to get pregnant (doesn't prevent you feeling absolutely horrible about your mc, though, I know). If acupuncture works for you in helping to conceive again, you'll find it a great comfort in those first early scary weeks of pregnancy, too, I'm sure.

Come back tell us how it goes, won't you? x

I can definitely recommend acupuncture. At least to balance hormones / treat a short luteal phase defect. I miscarried at 13 weeks last August and having been trying to get pregnant again ever since. Using the clearblue fertilty monitor I discovered that I was ovulating on day 23 and then getting my period on day 30, ie. that I had too short a luteal phase to support a healthy pregnancy. I went to see my GP who informed me that all fertilty treatment had been banned in our area so I couldn't get clomid or progesterone on the NHS. After some googling I decided to try acupuncture before resorting to the eyewateringly expensive private fertilty consultant I'd been recommended. I have to say I am a total convert! In just three sessions - of forty five minutes a week she's got me ovulating on day 17 and I am currently on day 27 without a period or any PMS symptoms which I would normally have by now, and so my luteal phase has already gone up to a much more healthy ten days and counting.
I'd never had acupuncture before and was nervous that it would hurt, in the same sharp way that an injection hurts. Turns out this is not at all the case. There's a sort of tapping feeling when she puts the needles in, followed by a sort of dull ache, which for me felt like a very low voltage electric shock on most points. On a couple of occasions, when she put the needle into certain key 'conception' points, I had a much more intense reaction, almost jumping off the bed, as I felt a bigger surge of shock. I still wouldn't say it hurt though, it was just a strange surprising feeling! !
Good luck to everyone else who's trying! xxx

Hi there, we have been trying ttc for one year, had all the tests and have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

Like mimizola, before spending a lot of money with private consultants, I decided to take up acupuncture. It's my second month now - I go to a chinese medicine centre where I have acupuncture every 3 weeks (not painful, if not quite relaxing!) and have been prescribed tonics to take every morning and horrid chinese herbs to take every night. It all adds up and isn't cheap...My periods are regular, ovulating on day 18 and cycles of 31 days - and I take vitamins, folic acid etc. I just hope something will work soon! The Chinese doc said that you have to try the treatment out for about 3 months and see what happens. I will try anything at this stage!
Good luck!
