ERPC or conservative management?

I went for a scan 2 weeks ago after some brown loss and found that all there was to see was a gestational sack, yolk sack and an implantation bleed, which put me 2 weeks earlier than my dates. I went for a rescan today and was found to have exactly the same scan result. No growth at all. Therefore it is classed as a failed early pregnancy. I have had 3 bleeds in-between the scans. Now I have to make a choice between ERPC or conservative management.
I really don't know what to do. I have 3 other dcs and a job that has me rushing around on my feet all day.

In a way the bleeds I've been having make it look as if something has started to happen naturally anyway, but due to my job i'm a bit scared of going back to work with the spectre oc imminent miscarriage above my head. On the other hand I'd like to get it done and over with, but I'm scared of the GA.
What are your experiences of both? It would be nice to hear from someone who has had to make the choice once before.

HI Belgina, sorry for your loss, theres a thread on the miscarriage/pregnancy loss site on this, it gives pro's con's both sides.

My personal experience was conservative mgmnet at 8 weeks back in sept last year, which my first pregnancy.
It wasnt a pretty or pleasant experience and could only of been done at home, due to pain and blood loss and it took two weeks from start to finish...
Looking back now i would of gone for the erpc root but i think its a personal choice.

For me it wasnt real until i felt the loss, i had a small bleed the week before my 12 week scan which gradually got worse over the period of a week with no pain or discomfort so physically miscarring made it all abit real for me,if that makes any sense..

so good luck with what ever decision you make.

Hi Belgina and so sorry to hear about your loss.
I have been in a similar situation and with the same work issues etc. I had an ERPC and it was the right choice for me. It is a really quick op so quite a short anaesthetic. I've also had a medically managed procedure and that, for me, was much worse - more pain and a longer physical recovery.

I've just gone through this and found the Miscarriage board absolutely brilliant. They're so lovely and supportive.

I opted for an erpc. It was quick and painless, and physically I healed really quickly.

My sil had medically managed, which didn't work and then had to have erpc anyway, my mw and my friend who's a mw all advised the erpc. Def the right option for me.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I echo everyone else's suggestion of posting on the miscarriage thread, I have had plenty of support there.

Having had 10 miscarriages, I have a bit of experince. I had 7 early easy miscarriages. Also 1 where I reabsorbed rather than passed the sac (that was the worst mentally). I have had one ERPC, which was easy and did give the advantage of having the genetic informaion being done. I also had one miscarrigae where I ended up in hospital with very heavy bleeding, pain not nice, but no worse that period pain for me.

Overall I prefer to let it happen naturally, but that is just the way I have dealt with it best emotionally.

There is as much a risk of infection with ERPC or naturally. I would personally not have medically managed as I understand the pain is greater.

As you have been having bleeding already, and that the loss is of a relatively early stage (by that I mean pre-embryonic), it could well be that the m/c is nothing more than a period. Some of my m/c's have been easier than a normal period! So if it was me in your position I would go for the conservative route, but it is a totally personal decision, that is for you to make, thinking about how it will help you with the grieving for the loss. I hope that things go ok for you.

Thanks everyone. I somehow couldn't find the misc section, so posted here. I've found it now and have been browsing similar threads, which has sort of made my mind up as i really just want it over with. I'be been in a sort of limbo with this scan that showed things 2 weeks out from my dates. I'm going to book in for an ERPC, but due to all sorts of things from my end, i wont be able to have it done until next week. Maybe things will happen before then, i dont know.
Thanks for all your answers, they've been very helpful.
