Hi,
Its called a hysteroscopy. A hysteroscope is the instrument they use to go through the cervix and into the uterus, it has a small camera on it. I had one done under General anasthetic because I was having adhesions/scar tissue removed from the uterus, but lots of women to have them in office without anasthetic.
Ask what pain medication they are offering, if none, then take ibuprofen the night before and again an hour before combined with paracetomol. The max dose of ibuprofen you can take is 800mg but take it with food or it can damage your stomach lining.
You can get paracetomol with codeine tablets without prescription from the pharamacy, but to be honest I am not sure if you can combine these with ibuprofen, so ask.
Also, ask for a 5 days course of antibiotics starting the day before the procedure. This is to reduce the risk of interuterine infection (which can cause all sorts of fertility problems) really insist on this. They will make you sign a form which says that you accept the "known risk of infection" so they do understand the risk exists.
Do you know where the polyp is? If it is on your uterus (as my scars were) then please be very careful about any surgery being done by someone who is not familiar with protocols for making sure scar tissue doesnt form. If its on your ovary this is less of an issue. Ask your doctor how many times they have performed this type of surgery in the last year, and what the outcome was for those women, did they go on to have succesful pregnancies? Its your fertility in their hands so you have every right to ask questions and get fully informed about what is going to happen. If need be, ask them to draw a picture of where the polyp/cyst is.
A procedure like this is quite scary, but if you do your homework and make sure you getting the care you deserve you will be fine and its so worth it to have your fertility restored.
best wishes
