ah, chill. Labour is not too bad. If you tear they stitch you, and at the end you have a lovely baby. Mostly.

It really isn't that bad. Really. Yes there is a very small number of women who have bad experiences, but the VAST majority get through it okay.

As a general rule of thumb, the things you worry about end up not mattering at all, things you could never have anticipated bite you on the ass, nothing anyone can say will ever be able to adequately prepare you for it so you may as well not fret over it.

Grumpla · 29/01/2011 22:50

Just to clarify, it is very rare for your baby to bite you on the ass during childbirth, although I'm sure if you read enough threads someone will give you a graphic description of it happening to them...

FunnysInTheGarden · 29/01/2011 22:52

and BTW, you really need to get pregnant first and get though the first 20 weeks before you worry. I have a very dear friend who is 30 and on her 2nd cycle of IVF. Seriously I don't think she is too worried about what happens in labour........

amummyinwaiting · 29/01/2011 22:55

Grumpla you made me laugh!Thought I was going to have to add cannibal newborns to my worry list! :)
Thanks all for reassurance-just all came as abit of a shock-I onl got to page two!

amummyinwaiting I was in labour for a long, long 3 days and I can honestly say it was the best experience of my life Smile I was centre of attention, everybody was patient with me, my family all rushed around me for the entire first day taking notes of how often I was having contractions and where they rated on the pain scale.

And, by the time labour actually comes, you're more than likely going to be SO relieved the nightmare pregnancy was over and your baby is on its way that the whole thing will be a horrific and amazing blur anyway.

I read that thread too after seeing this and I have to say overall it seemed fairly balanced by the whole loving baby tonnes and enjoying the change etc but I laughed so much whilst reading it DH kept giving me Hmm looks but then I am the sort of person who watches OBEM and baby tales, home birth stories etc so am possibly very odd! I may save it and give to DH to read if we ever ever get that far. Good prep for all eventualities :)

amummyinwaiting · 30/01/2011 19:14

I watch them too twizzle but think some how seeing it in writing made it seem more "real" :)
Thanks babylann that made me feel better: attention and something good at the end! :)

I havent read the thread but I was terrified when I got pregnant with DS. I found a great anti dote though, the book by Ina May Gaskin - Guide to Childbirth - I ended up having a natural birth with no drugs and DS was 9 poundsShock Go me. Grin

whomovedmychocolate · 30/01/2011 23:49

Nah, childbirth is a doddle - mind you, mine all came out the catflap. Grin
