my doc said she always advises couples ttc to have sex EVERYDAY for the 5 days leading upto to ovulation, the day you ovulate and the 5 days following it. she said this method is bound to get you pregnant. let me know what you think, or whether you've been advised different

'bound to get you pregnant'.

Sadly, there's no such thing. Your chances of conception are around 25% if you're doing everything right. No 'bound to' about it.

Sex every other day is enough for a normal couple with no fertility issues to consider.

The egg deteriorates pretty soon after ovulation, certainly a couple of days later your chances of conception are absolutely minimal. 5 days post ovulation is really pushing it! But assuming you don't know when you ovulate, trying for a good amount of days either side of when you think you ovulate probably helps.

There's no way of ensuring pregnancy and while you can do things to maximise your chances, sex every day isn't the usual recommendation.

But every other day through your cycle is still what seems to be the way to go.

My doc just said 'remember to have lots of sex' - ah well, any excuse! Seriously though, I know a lot of people seem to say every other day is best, but really have no idea if there is any good reason.

No1, I have never heard this advice before. I think for 5days EVERYDAY up to ovulation and 5 days after is too much to be honest and not normally advised! The NHS guidelines say every 2-3 days. If your partner's sperm is normal then every day whilst you see EWCM is deemed ok but too much sex can prevent his sperm rejuvinating properly. Plus not to mention it becomes a bit tedious and too much like hard work Wink?!

I didn't realise the NHS guideline was 2-3 days - thanks for that. The reasoning makes sense too. Guess we'd better slow down then Blush

GP is not right at all; conception does not work like that. Ovulaiton is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

Also sex every day like she advises can put pressures on the relationship particularly if one of them does not feel like having sex that evening.

Yeah i thought it was a bit extreme! ive always been told by friends etc that every other day is good cos the sperm wil be stronger opposed to everyday. she said 5 days before and after as sperm and eggs can live for that long, thought it was 3 days? i hate being told different things! im going to carry on with the 2-4 times a week and see. thanks guys.
