Anyone got pregnant with low sperm count?

Here's our story, Got pregnant with our DS1 in the first month of trying. Been trying for second child for 11 months and now we have found out husband has low sperm count. Unsure whether it has always been low and DS1 was a miracle or whether it has just been low this year since we've been trying. We're waiting for a referral to a specialist. Does anyone have any success stories getting pregnant with SC problems, feeling really down about it.. :(

Sorry to hear you're struggling and didn't want you to go unanswered.

My DH also has a low sperm count and I have PCOS, so as yet don't have a success story for you. But sometimes it helps knowing you're not alone.

However, sperm are funny things and they do go up and down and it may be that his improve in a few months. Or the specialist will suggest something to help you both get pregnant. Surely having one DC goes in your favour that things are possible!

Good luck

We went to see a FC because of my PCOS. They did DH's SA as part of the battery of tests and that is when we found out it was low. Neither of us have DC.

I am taking clomid (2nd month) as at least if there is an egg, there is some chance of a sperm finding it! Will do that for 6 months, before going back to the FC. He has said that IUI, IVF or ICSI are the options, but it will depend on how DH's sperm "prepares" when they do more investigation if necessary.

DH is now is boxer shorts rather than tight pants, and a supplement (although the FC not to bother). He is healthy otherwise - doesn't smoke, drinks a few glasses of red and exercises.

Hi Daisy18 - what's your DH's SC?
Also, 7% normal morphology is now considered normal. The World Health Organisation is changing their guidelines to anything above 4% being normal.

Hi Daisy I'm in a very similar situation - got pregnant first month with DS (now coming upto 3 years) but have been trying for a year for number 2 with no luck. DH has just had the results of his first SA and they weren't too good, he's having another one next week.

Lettie I've been looking on the internet for what's considered 'good' and am struggling to find any information. DH's motility was 26.8% (doc said anything over 50% considered good) and morphology 3.8% (doc said 15% good). Do you have a link to any facts and figures?

Hi PinkCustard, I found this blog very helpful.

infertilityblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/sperm-morphology-new-guidelines.html

It is by a respected Dr in New York. When my DH's SA came back, he spoke to the embroyologist who told him that the World health Organisation were changing their figures and this blogs explains it simply. So in this blog, it states that 'normal' motility has been brought down from 50% to 40%. And actually your DH's morphology is above normal according to the WHO.
Exercise and eating healthily was the only advice we were given to improve my DH's morphology. And tests can differ considerably from one month to another apparently....

Belguinbun - good to hear about your success story.
Pinkcustard - sorry to hear you are in the same position - it's so difficult.
Lettie - I got the results from the GP and she said count was 3 million but gave no other details, just did a repeat test today. We're hoping it will improve as I dont want to go down the AC route if possible.
