Should I go private?

Hi Ladies

Grateful for your advice. I came off the pill about a year ago and since then have not ovulated (as far as I know - no periods or temp change). For the last 5 months I have been taking clomid - 2x 50mg, 1x 100mg and 2x 125mg, which hasn't helped to make me ovulate. I was not monitored while taking this.

My GP also arranged a scan for me, which showed that I might have PCOS, but it was not conclusive and I don't have any other symptoms apart from the lack of periods.

After waiting for several months I was refered to a specialist on the NHS. Basically he just said he wanted to do some more blood tests and to come back in 3 months. After waiting so long this was very frustrating. I have therefore looked into going privately. The next thing that they could try to get me to ovulate is injections. I would really like to try this now as the thought of doing nothing for 3 months is really depressing. We don't have available funds for this and it would have to go on a credit card (although we both earn quite well so wouldn't be a problem paying this off). We also have health insurance which may cover some of the costs.

I had therefore basically made my mind up to go private - firstly to get a proper diagnosis and secondly to try the injections. If we needed IVF I think we would have to go back to NHS and wait as we couldn't afford this.

However I went to see my acupuncterist today and she thinks that I should not go private and should just wait the three months as my body will need time to settle down after taking the clomid in any case.

What do you think? Should I just wait the three months? Has anyone tried injections to start ovulation? Could you do these straight after trying clomid?

Thanks

I'm sure it's not what you want to hear but I agree with your acupuncturist. Even if you can have the injections straight after clomid (sorry have no experience of it yet, that may be the next step for me) I think your body needs a rest. Are the tests genetic tests? I had to wait 3 months for the results of genetic testing recently (got results on 6th Dec and thankfully all's ok). It sounds like such a long time at the beginning of the wait but if you think of it another way it's only 3 cycles and you'd be better keeping the money towards all the expensive baby bits you'll need when, not if (think positive) you're successful. It's so hard when you've been ttc for a while as you get more and more stressed and babies/pregnant women seem to be everywhere to remind us of what we want need. It's a vicious cycle as the longer you try the more stressed you get and the more stressed you are the less likely you are to concieve.
I've been thinking of acupuncture. Are you using it as a ttc aid? If so how are you finding it?
Good luck for a speedy conception.
