Hi

I am 40 years old and have DS1 (4 years in Jan) and DS2 (7 mths) and DH and I are planning to let nature take its course to see if we get lucky and have a DC3. Are we mad? Would welcome thoughts from others with 3 Smile

x

I have 3 aged 12, 4 and 18 months and it is lovely would have baby number 4 if wehad an extra bedroom!!

Fortunately for us DS1 is VERY keen to share a bunk bed with DS2 as soon as he is old enough though I can imagine that may change further down the line!

We have ds1, 5y4m dd, 2.5 and ds2, about to turn 1 this week. It is lovely but so full on!

Assuming you get pg quickly, baby's arrival may well coincide with ds starting school and it is a lot to deal with, getting 3 ready to get out in time for school when one is a newborn that needs feeding a lot!

I am hoping we will reap benefits of having dd and ds2 so close together later on but for now it is still tough though lots of fun and they are very very cute all together. I feel for dd as we forget that she is still a baby too and often expect more of her than we should. A bit more of my time for her would have been nice before dc3 arrived too-but then she has a best mate to be in him. Ideally I would have had another 6-9 months between 2 and 3.. The other thing that makes life hard for us is that they ate all poor sleepers in their own ways! That is a killer.

I have two boys, 6 and 4, and a girl, 14 months, and yes it can be bloody hard work, but sooooooo very worth it.

Louplet · 29/12/2010 20:14

I do feel a bit sorry for DS2 as he won't have as much time on his own with me as DS1 has had but I don't want to leave it too long being 40 already. Otherwise I would have loved to leave a longer gap.

Good to know I am not the only mad one on the block!

I have DS2,6, DD,2.8 and DS3, 11 months.

I found going from two to three such hard work. Immensely trying, tireing, you don't get a minute to yourself anymore and by god, it's exhausting.

But, it's fun. And never dull. And i wouldn't change it at all.

Hell, i'm even hoping for another!

RachelHRD · 29/12/2010 20:42

Not mad at all! I'm 41 and have DS 3 and DD 10 months and I would love another!

DH thinks I'm mad as I had a really difficult pregnancy with DD - worries about chromosomal issues and then she was born with some health issues which are ongoing. I just don't feel I have 'finished' if that makes sense and don't want to look back in years to come and regret not trying for another.

Have decided that once I've had a follow up smear (borderline results from last one) at the end of Jan that I will 'persuade' DH that trying for another is a good idea!!

Funny. The way things work out. I always thought I would stop at two but almost as soon as I got pregnant with DS2 DH and I started talking about how we would really like one more. I guess I don't feel finished either. Imagine I will after a third though if we manage it. Mind you. Statistically chances of twins go up with subsequent births and age of mother so I could get more than I bargained for!

Good luck RachelHRD. Fingers crossed that we both get the third DC we would like.
