What do you think of my cycle lengths??

A bit of back-ground: I'm 40, mum to 3 aged 21, 19 & 4 and got prg with all 3 on first month of trying. No gynae/hormonal probs at all. Had mirena removed in June, af followed a couple of days later.

Af has just arrived after our 5th cycle of trying and my cycle lengths are as follows:

Cycle 1 - 28 days
C 2 - 30 days
C 3 - 28 days
C 4 - 32 days
C 5 - 27 days

Is this ok?? I used OPK's for the first couple of months but haven't bothered since as I get ov'ing symptoms each month.

So......what do you think?? Do I need to regulate my cycle lengths? If so, how?

Thank you!

I think that sounds fine, my cycle varies from 28 days to 38 days! and have not had any problem getting pregnant twice - no. 1 on 1st month of trying, no. 2 was taking longer so about 4 or 5 months in we went for the every-other-night-for-a-month method. We were KNACKERED! and sometimes did have to say no and do every 2 nights but it worked first month. Thank god cos i don´t know how long we could have kept that up! lol.

good luck

Those cycles sound very nice and regular, I wouldn't be worried about that at all. Mine varied between 22-29 days if that helps at all.

Your cycle lengths sound fine but what you need to consider now is your actual ovarian reserve. Blood tests can be done to see what this is actually like now. Women are born only with a finite number of eggs. Also egg quality now is a factor and fertility does also decline with age.

Ovulating symptoms can be deceiving; it may be that you are not ovulating every month now. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

Thank you for all your replies!

I must sound really dense, but having fallen first go every time I've never needed to look into these thing too deeply.

Attila - would opk's indicate that I'm ov'ing? I'm planning on booking in with my gp for December when it will be 6 months of trying. Hoping that given my age she'll arrange the necessary bloods.

OPK's would not always give accurate readings, you cannot rely on those alone to prove ovulation. The surest way of checking re ovulation is to have blood tests done.

Think you are wise to visit the GP in December when it will be 6 months of ttc.

Thank you! I'm a little lost with all this tbh.

Hmmm I wonder if she'd see me earlier, just to get it over with lol.

No, it's unlikely that she'd see you before you have been trying for 6 months. But standard protocol for an over 35 would be to run tests after 6 months.

Have you noticed that they seem to alternate - slightly longer, slightly shorter - which is interesting isn't it. Maybe one ovary takes bit longer to 'wake up' than the other Grin

Fingers crossed you get lucky on the 6th month and don't have to go down all the blood tests etc.

roundthehouses · 05/11/2010 14:25

umm.. why don´t you just SAY that you´ve been trying 6 months? its not like they´ll know.. have always wondered about this...

harassedinherpants · 05/11/2010 14:31

I had noticed that Ladybee - odd isn't it?!

Roundthehouses - she took my coil out so she'll def know Grin.

I am wondering if my mirena has had more of an effect than I thought. A bit tmi but I've been have really heavy af's, and this month it's a bit more normal and manageable. Previously I couldn't go much more than an hour without a loo visit!!

hahaha yes well that´ll be harder to fib about then. oh well..
