Will 5-7 days be enough for implantation?

Hi,

I have kept a record of my cycle for the last four months, and there is 17 days between the end of my period and the next one. This is the first month using a CBFM so I know when I have ovulated. Looking at the date of ovulation and the start of my next period based on previous months, there is between 5 - 7 days (the range is due to the 2 peak days on the monitor).

I used OPKs last month and I did notice that the ovulation was a week before my period so I think this is usual for me.

My question is, will this be enough time for the egg to take?

Hi emmiegirl, I'm not a doctor but from what I've read that would be considered a short luteal phase, and may be too short. Fertiltyfriend (the charting website) did a study looking at implantation dips and the majority of those occurred between 6-10 dpo, most often on days 7-8. I think this would be worth a chat with your gp.

By the way, do you take your bbt? It's possible to see a peak on the cbfm but not actually ovulate. You would normally see a rise in temp after you ovulate, so it might be worth checking that. Your doctor could also order bloodtests to see whether you ovulated.

Thanks Ladybee. I went to the doctor today as I had spotting this morning which is what I predicted.

She said that 7 days between ovulation and a period wasn't anything to worry about and you could still get pregnant. She has asked me to have a 21 day blood test next month to double check I'm ovulating and to compare this to the CBFM.

She also said that they wouldn't usually do investigations until 12 months of trying, which I have to say, is rather frustrating.

emmiegirl, I'm no doctor but everything I've read suggests that a luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period) less than 10 days (some say 12 days) is too short.

If your doc won't do anything you might want to think about things that you could do to lengthen it yourself to give yourself the best possible chance of conceiving. Vitamin B6, Agnus Castus and acupucture are all supposed to help. I might be worth having a read around and see what you would be happy to take. Good luck!

Hi,
I was a bit disappointed y'day to find out that I am menstruating. my period was 7 days late than usual. But what seemed really unusual was few clots I passed... could it be the fertilised ovum which was not implanted?? I just remember my GP told me when she removed my mirena coil on the 16th of Aug that the endometrium gets thinner with mirena, so for some people it takes a while to get pg.... anyone there with experience...?
