Calling all Lap & Dyers!

Hello peeps!

I was wondering what people's experiences had been after Lap & Dye. I had lap for suspected endo and PCOS where the result was that minimal endo and a couple of cysts were removed, plus one-sided drilling. The next cycle my first period was super painful and gory (sorry, TMI!) but I was less surprised considering all the work they'd done.

My real question in re: mid-cycle pain, however. The next cycle has had awful pain CD14-18, with rather incapacitating hip pain on the side of the 'apparently' active ovary (No certainty of that though, just had Day 21 Prog to see if ovulation has finally started). Hip pain spread across, and GP says its actually 'good', because it means things might be starting to work.

Problem is, pain has got worse after op and with such crippling pain mid-cycle the chance of BD-ing is nonexistent, what should I do?

I mentioned hip pain to Gyn before surgery but apparently there was minimal endo so none likely in hip.

Thanks for any advice, I'm feeling a bit puzzled and low Blush

Hi eggy,

Sorry to read of what's happened since the lap.

I am actually wondering whether the surgeon who operated on you was actually able to remove/see all the endometriosis that was there. A lap is a specialist op with a steep learning curve and it often requires a higher level of expertise than what a "general" gynae can provide. Some gynaes as well only use it as a diagnostic procedure.

Were you given a proper follow up appt say a week post op to discuss the findings of the lap?. This should have been done as a matter of course.

Mid cycle pain is highly indicative of endo, am thinking that your op was only partially successful and not all of it got removed successfully. It may be that you will need yet more lap type surgery. The endo is probably giving rise to the pelvic pain you describe.

I would start thinking about obtaining a second opinion from another gynae cons at another hospital unit. You need to find a gynae with a specialist interest in endo and up to date knowledge.

You may find www.endo.org.uk a helpful website.

Thank Attila, surgeon had chat after the op with images of findings (when I was perky and keen to hear) but follow-up wasn't due until 3 months later - I expect Gyn was banking on drilling having worked by then! I've brought forward the follow-up so I'll mention the possibility of rogue endo.

What do you think of hip pain? It doesn't radiate down sciatic nerve, its just the stiffest joint ever.

Thanks again :)
