Hi,

I've been TTC for so long now, not using contraception for 2 years, properly TTC for 13 months. As I'm old 37 we have been referred for tests and are now awaiting results of sperm and bloods.

Is there anyone in a similar position???

I have good days and bad days, although the good days are becoming few and far between, especially as everyone I know seems to be pregnant or have babies.

Everyday there seems to be bad news about older women conceiving, having the wrong blood type, freezing eggs etc... is there any good news???

Please come and say hi, share your experience of fertility investigations etc

Hi Greeneyes - can I join you if I'm TTC no2? After the arrival of yet another AF today marking a year of TTC, we're going to trot off to the doctors as soon as I get an appointment.

I know I'm lucky to have DS (he's 2.5) but it's getting me down that DC2 is proving so much more difficult. I had the day 21 test a few months ago and the result came back as 'good ovulation', but I haven't discussed anything further with dr yet.

I'm feeling very down about it all today. It seems like all of my mummy friends are pregnant again or already have another. All I want to do is cry today.

I'm sorry I don't have anything more positive to say to you - although I would say that I know a lot of mums who conceived around the age of 40, so don't lose hope on the age front!

Hi Tea, sorry to hear AF arrived. I know how hard it is and especially when all your friends seem to have no problem getting pregnant!

I've had results from first Day 21 test from 6 months ago which showed good ovulation also, but had to have another and also Day 2-5.

DH already has a DS from previous marriage, so I think thats going to count against us if we need IVF on the NHS. We cant afford to have private treatment so really pushed for a referral to see a fertility consultant. We also have to travel miles because our PCT does not offer any NHS fertility treatment.

Thank you!

When do you get your results? Did you find it hard to get a referral?

I really hope you get some positive answers and suggestions soon!

I had first blood test done at GP surgery and had results about 3 weeks later when she then referred me via Choose and Book to see a Consultant. I had a choice of 3 (nearest in miles) and then could choose appt which was 3 months in advance. Unfortunately the first appt was cancelled the day before! I then had to reschedule another which meant another 9 week wait. First appt was not even with the Consultant, but I found the clinic to be lovely, really friendly, helpful, informative etc and was given blood test cards to go on Days 2-5 and Day 21, DH was asked to provide a sample and appt was made immediately (2 week wait), now we have to go back in December to see a fertility nurse and get results!

Have you thought about getting referred?

Blimey, that's a lot of waiting!

Do you think it's worth trying to get referred, though? Can your GP get you the same tests or not?

Sorry - you started this thread to get advice and now I'm asking you for it!! I'm sure others out there have had and are having the same experience, though - one thing I've realised over the past year is that problems with fertility are much more common that you might at first think! Sad

Hi, you're so right in saying that problems with fertility are much more common that you might think. I've only recently discovered that there are 4 out of 9 women in my office have had several failed IVF cycles or have been TTC for over 3 years.

My GP could only offer blood tests which is why I requested the referral to see a specialist. Hopefully the tests will discover if there is a problem, and hopefully we can get some treatment to help (ICSI/IVF). I have a feeling they'll just give me Clomid and tell me to come back in 6 months which I will not be happy about.

I'm 37 and a half - time is ticking!!!

Hi Greeneyes - I'm not sure how to explain this but I'm afraid I can't join in this anymore because what I thought was the beginning of AF has in fact turned out not to be so. I found out this morning I am actually pregnant!

I'm sorry if this a bit of a kick when you're down. I guess after a year I just didn't think it was going to happen this month and when I thought I was coming on, I just accepted it.

Obviously, I wish you the very best of luck with TTC. Sadly, there are so many women struggling out there so I know you'll find more support here. Blush
