Been ttc for 11 months now.
Going to ask GP to refer me to either Liverpool, or to a new female gynae consultant at my local hospital.

What tests should i expect to have carried out.

(DH already submitted a sample and that was ok 12 months ago, so need to know what i will be tested for)

Thanks x

Well we started down the investigation route as was taking us a long time to conceive DC2

They did blood tests on me - 21 day progesterone and then I think they do another one on day 3 of your cycle to check the hormone levels for producing the egg (I never had that done as got pg before investigations finished!)

I paid for a private scan and the doctor did a vaginal scan, checked my womb for obvious bblockages, fibroids etc and we were going to go down the route of more testing but bam...it happened

I was ovulating later than I thought - this may well be the case for you, or you may be ovulating earlier

Have you tried ovulation tests just to give you an idea of when its happening?

brokeoven · 24/10/2010 21:01

can you tell me what your progesterone levels were on day 21?

Arghh no...am sorry I can't remember..all I know was that they were normal and no cause for concern

Have you googled reference ranges for 21 day progesterone tests - may help?

They do say that even healthy couples can take over a year to conceive so try not to get to disheartened

Have you tried pillow under your bum after sex etc etc - am not sure what you have/haven't tried as your op didn't say Smile

First off do you know if you are ovulating?Do you have regular periods?
Have you done those ovulation tests?

Should do a hormone blood test and maybe a scan to see inside.

I have a private gynae and he was very thorough and wanted to rule stuff out so I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to make sure all tubes etc working as they should.

To cut long story short I had norestesterone to get my periods started again. Then clomid to get all the follicles up and working. Scans every few days to make sure the follicles were maturing and on right dose. When 1 follicle was 18mm big I got a jab of HCG to induce ovulation. Then i started taking progesterone.....
That is a very monitored clomid cycle which is usually the first kinda fertility 'help' you will get.

Our first cycle was unfortunately unscuccessful.

I wish you every luck.
Keep trying and dont lose heart

Hmm...you may need to do them for at least a few cycles to get a good idea - I had some months where I didn't get a positive result..the month I conceived this one (took two years) was when I got a strong positives

Which tests are you using? I bought from this website - and I think they are pretty good - and reasonably priced

Ahh..I think its a whole different ball game if you are actually getting pregnant...the focus will shift now on to what could be causing the recurrent MC...why don't you try a new thread with the title recurrent miscarriages, what steps can I take now and I am sure you will get a lot of advice on what tests they can do for that

My DS is 3 weeks old and was conceived following ICSI treatment (form of IVF)... i didn't have to have to many tests, but we were referred following a diagnosis for my husband. I seem to remember i had to have 3-4 blood tests which include progresterone levels and standard STI tests. Also had to have a clomidia screen (like a smear test). Treatment started after only about 6 weeks waiting.

The whole experience was pretty bad, but only because we felt we never really understood what was happening. You're on a rollercoster ride and things happen so fast with scans, sprays and injections, before you know it, you're waiting for the results.

However, we were incredibly lucky and i got pregnant first time round. An absolute blessing...

Hang in there, and when you start treatment, just go with it and try not to stress about what is happening and when (difficult I know), but the less stressed you are, the better...

good luck ...

I have a friend in this situation

in her case (please remmeber it may be diff for you)
her body'is immune system is attacking the fetus.
She has managed to have one baby but is having to now go for IVF for their 2nd - she is 41 now though so cant wait around for other alternatives.

Hope this helps

brokeoven sorry for your losses, 5 must be v hard, I have had 4 myself so can empathise. Have a look on the recurrent buns thread on miscarriage / pregnancy loss section of talk, there are lots of very knowledgeable ladies on there that may be able to help shed some light on what you should ask for etc. They have helped me no end x
