I just made sure I was eating healthily, taking 400mg of Folic acid every day, getting plenty of sleep and generally behaving like I was in training for a marathon (which you kind of are, but without the sweaty clingy sportswear... on no, hang on :o)

I didn't see the doc beforehand, just turned up when I was pg. Unless you have any underlying health problems I think that it's fine to not see them before.

Oh and of course I don't need to say don't smoke, take drugs or drink if you can help it (though I actually think the odd glass of wine when you're ttc isn't the end of the world, will probably even help a bit, relaxing is very very important if you're ttc!)

LoopyLoupGarou · 20/10/2010 20:58

Folic acid, and try to stop or cut down drinking and smoking.

Have lots of sex, and try not to stress about conceiving.

Go on a REALLY luxurious foreign holiday because you won't be able to go on one fancy one once your lovely baby is born.

Good luck Grin.

Find a partner and be sure the relationship is up to having you double in size and then give birth very painfully to a small person who screams constantly, shits absolutely everywhere every hour, on the hour and leads you to indulge in competitive misery with your partner because you believe he slept for five minute more than you Grin

You then need to take folic acid and have lots of sex.

Make sure you had your Rubella immunisation when you were younger, if not go and get one.

Hey no1childminder, there's another thread with a few of us planning to start ttc Nov / Dec if you fancy joining us. A few newbies on there, including yours truly. Smile

MummyAbroad · 21/10/2010 00:35

Throw away your lubricant if you use it. It damages sperm. If you really want to use some the brands PreSeed and CoceivePlus have been tested to be sperm friendly.

Scientific study results

It's good to make sure you're up to date on smear tests.

Even if you had your Rubella once before, some women can become vulnerable again - basically your immunity can wear off - so go back and get that and your iron levels checked.

Then the lots of sex bit.
