Just back from MRI scan (wrt high prolactin level).

Radiologist tells me I have a 1cm adenoma and I'll need drugs to treat it.

How about my pregnancy plans? How long will treatment take? Do I need to wait until treatment's over (if ever)?

Will speak with the endocrinologist on friday, but fairly worried about implications.

Anyone with any words of advice?

Many yhanks in advance.

Hi Endo,

I don't mean to be cheeky but is it definitely an adenoma the radiologist said you have? With a high prolactin level, if it's caused by a tumour it's a micro or macroprolactinoma.

I was confirmed to have a microprolactinoma 4mm about 5 years ago. It's really scary to be told that you have a tumour, but honestly it's NOT something to panic about; Your life will go on the same as usual and there is treatment for it. Probably, your endocrinologist will start you on either cabergoline or bromocryptine once or twice a week. I take cabergoline and have never had any side effects. Your prolactin levels will be checked in a blood test every few months.

Regarding TTC, I conceived my DD six months after starting cabergoline and entirely by accident ( yep one of those annoying people Envy . I had a normal pregnancy and was able to breastfeed for a year before restarting medication. I've been TTC number 2 for 18 months, largely down to male factors which we're having investigated just now, namely low sperm count.

I hope this helps, if you've any questions just ask, because I've been there and remember how low I felt.

Hi, littleshamrock, and thanks for your reply.

Yes, adenoma is what he said, I'm sure. The endocrinologist will make everything clearer tomorrow when I ring her, I hope.

I hate taking any kind of drug, but understand it needs treating.

My DP also has issues wth his sperm. He had a hernia removed when he was 3 years old and Dr believes this could be the reason for the low sperm count. DP has an appointment with a urologist end of November.

How are your prolactin levels now?

Once you are treated with the drugs then your chances of conceiving are normal.

I wrote this on the other thread so sorry for repeating. I was not having periods which is how they discovered the microprolactinoma (mine is only 2mm). I was taking bromocriptine when first diagnosed and it took about 8 weeks to get periods back after starting treatment and got pregnant 2 months later (lost pregnancy but apparently nothing to do with this problem). Prolactin levels were 1000 when diagnosed.

Good luck hopefully your levels will come down quickly.

Hey, KTRace.

The endo's prescribed me Cabergoline (one every night before bed). I have to go collect the prescription this afternoon before 6.

Then another bloodtest after a month to assess.

Worrying about side effects of it already...

How are your prolactin levels now?

Don't worry I have just gone on to cabergoline myself I have been fine on them. I take on a week.

My levels are all over the place as I have recently had another miscarriage, but they did come down and I have been pregnant twice, just lost both of them but they tell me it is nothing to do with the prolactinoma. Now I am going to get investigated for the recurrent MCs.

Good luck

KTRace, that's really sad. I'm so sorry and I hope you get all the help you deserve.

Just returned from pharmacy. Typically, they're out of what I need. Will try again tomorrow.

How long's it been since you discovered the microprolactinoma?

They never have the medication when I go, always have to drop in prescription and pick up the following day.

Thank you for your kind words.

My prolactinoma was suspected in April 2009 and confirmed in July 2009.
