Hi all

I'm new to TTC and Chat boards so Just to introduce myself im jen aged 28 and my DH has just turned 30.

We ve decided to start TTC this month after being married for almost 4 years.

Ive been on the marvelon pill for about 8 years, recently I ve been rubbish at taking it and have missed quite a few pills over the last couple of months. Luckily I've been working away and very long hours so no chance of falling pg Blush!!! but now I'm concerned as my cycle will be all over the place. Theres no sign of a full withdrawal af yet, although due to missing lots of pills theres been beakthrough bleeding for the month.

Does anyone have any experience of coming of the pill esp marvelon, which could help me?

I feel a rollacoaster of emotions coming up for the next few months!

Other wise hello and good luck to all those trying:)

Hi Jen  I'm in a similar position, just started to ttc and had the mirena coil removed a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure how long cycles take to get back to normal (and mirena is different from pill) but i guess it's different for everyone. I'm trying not to think about it (easier said than done though) and enjoy the trying. But it's hard not feeling fully in control!

spidookly · 16/10/2010 16:12

You're young, you've loads of time.

Try not to get involved in "rollercoaster of emotion" at this stage, you've barely started.

Just have lots of sex, enjoy each other, and only start wondering whether you are pregnant if your period is later than you expect.

catifer · 16/10/2010 16:45

thanks squirrel I hate not being in control, but think we will just take it all as its comes.

thanks and too true spikookly but hoping not to return to how I was before being on the pill, a moody, erratic mess who fainted through the pain of cramps and regulary threw in all sorts of the places including shopping centres! thats a rollercoaster I don't want to be back on, ah we will see in time though !!

catifer

If your periods were that bad previously then you should really see a gynae sooner rather than later. Such things are not "normal" period pain and may actually be due to endometriosis. This can cause very painful periods to arise along with the other symptoms you mention.

catifer · 16/10/2010 17:03

thanks attila I saw my gp about it when I was much younger and was put on the pill, whihc stopped all symptons.

Have since asked questions when getting a repeat for the pill, explaining we were going to start trying in 6 months or so, and that i was concerned it would all return and was fobbed off with a 'well we can give you painkillers' don't worry about etc.

Needless to say now we ve decided to give TTC a go I will be booking an appointment with my GP to discuss it all and will not be fobbed off this time!

www.endo.org.uk is a site that you may find helpful.

Pill would stop all symptoms but if these arise again off the pill you need a referral to a gynae. Endo can and does recur. Many GPs cannot and do not recognise endometriosis and their knowledge of it thus can be scant. It is actually the second most common gynae problem seen in women after fibroids yet I had a GP tell me that endo is uncommon (soon put him right by the way).

Do not be fobbed off with, "we can give you painkillers" (pah!) and if pains return seek proper answers.

hi squirrel007, we are sailing on the same boat, i had my mirena coil out on the 16th of august, had a withdrawl bleeding for 5 days, then had my actual period on the 1st of this month(oct)started TTC from last night (ohoo) as there was signs of ovulation from day 16 of my cycle.... hope it all goes well. I already have aset of twins....

now good luck.. enjoy it to the fullest, rather than just TTC... he he...

squirrel007 · 18/10/2010 13:03

Hi jollyjollymum and good luck to you too! The nurse told me to expect AF about 4-6 weeks after having the coil out, but I'm sure I had signs of ov last week. We've been relaxed about the whole thing so far, but now it's just a waiting game!

sunlover72 · 18/10/2010 13:12

Hi from one newbie to another ;)

When my OH came off the pill, she was all over the place cycle wise too. She also had bleeding in the middle of the cycle for a bit which was a bit fustrating for us.

BUT it calmed down after a few months, i think it just takes a while for the hormones to go back to normal.

Good luck with the ttc

jollyjollymom · 19/10/2010 10:10

hey, I still had loads of vag.muco last night, but the actual BD didn't happen as we were laughing too much while BDing last night, over a silly thing that happened 7yrs ago on our big night (it was our 7th wed. anniversery y'day)and the magic was all over too soon, cos we laughed too long. But we did BD the previous night which was the 17th day of my period. now I am worried if there will be enough active sperms to meet the egg... and will I be still fertile untill the end of 19th day of my period.... I am 31 and DH is 34, we have a set of 4year old twins. ah.. just waiting a game..but we enjoy TTC anyway..

sunlover72 · 19/10/2010 10:13

^^ it only takes one egg, and one bd session releases literally tens of millions.

Also (in case your interested) the most fertile day isnt ovulation day itself, its the 2 days before ovulation.

jollyjollymom · 19/10/2010 10:37

hi sunlover, is that true ? how can it be possible for an egg to be fetilized before it even being released?? I might be wrong, but I always thought you are fertile from the time of ovulation to next 72 hours... and also sperms can still survive if u BD 3-4 days before ur ovulation..

sunlover72 · 19/10/2010 10:41

^

Hey

Sperm can live upto 5 days inside you, and its considered that its best for them to be waiting for the egg when its released.

The egg itself only lives around 24 hours.. so if you bd on ovulation and 72 hours after then your not really maximising your chances.

Theres been a few studies on it, and the day before ovulation came out as the most fertile in one study, 2 days before ovulation came out as most fertile in the other big study.

Having said that, you can get pregnant on ovulation day, and the day after ovulation.

So, if your OH has no issues with sperm count, the best bet is to BD 2 days before ovulation, 1 day before ovulation and ovulation itself (and the day after if he can manage it).

If thats a lot of pressure for the guy though, bding every second day, starting a week before ovulation will cover you pretty well as well.

Gintonic · 20/10/2010 21:46

Hi All,

I am on month 5 of TTC, and currently on the 2ww (hence scouring the boards on mumsnet to get me through ...)

The first 3 months I convinced myself I was pregnant, and then was really upset when I wasnt. Now I am more resigned to the fact that each month the chance is actually quite low - 20% apparently, or less for me as I am mid 30s. It is still hard waiting though (especially the not drinking ...)

Wanted to let catifer know about one thing I have found helps reduce bad period pain. I had started getting really bad pains mainly at night, but it seems to have improved since I started using a mooncup. Apparently using a mooncup or sanitary towels instead of tampons can help some people (check out the mooncup website which explains why - I wont write it out here as it involves blood and clots and might make us all feel ill ...)

Anyway hope you are all enjoying ttc and look forward to hearing how you get on

catifer · 22/10/2010 16:20

Hi Gintonic

thanks for the mooncup tip, ill see how it goes and if its bad again then I'll give it a go

don't know about you guys but after beeing told for many years of sex ed if you don't use protection you'll get pregnant, its hard getting your head round it could take months!
