Hi!
I hear its possible to still ovulate, even if you dont have a period? How do you test if this is happening?
As i dont have an obvious cycle, i cant use Ovulation test kits to work it out.
I have PCO and have also been told that monitoring basal body temp is pointless due to this.
Any ideas? What can my Dr do to find out if i am ovulating?

Hi Jopage i think you need to have the day 2 and day 21 blood tests to give an accurate result of if you are ovulating. Hope this helps.

absentbump · 05/10/2010 16:18

Sorry just realised as you dont have periods guess its hard to know when day 2 and day 21 tests should be done. Do you have any sort of ovulation pain any time of the month inparticular?

hiya - Yeah, trying to get pregnant!
Dont seem to have any obvious pain any time in the month...

am currently taking metformin to kick start but to no avail. looks like clomid is next option, but how will i know when to take it if i dont have a cycle?!

Am going to push for a referral when i see GP at end of month.

perhaps by a massive batch of cheap OV sticks and pee on them every day until you get your positive?

also studying your cervical mucas will really help, when its egg white then you OV

Hi Jopage,

Cervical mucus checking is of no benefit at all if PCO is an issue.

IA period does not always come two weeks after ovulation; that is not the case at all.
Ovulation is not an exact science and it can happen earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

You need blood tests done to check your hormone levels; if PCO is present then it is likely that LH and FSH are not as they should be (there is too much LH and not enough FSH).

You should be referred to a gynae for further evaluation; PCO is not a condition that should be messed around with by GPs.

With regards to clomid it should always be given with a degree of caution to PCO patients as they can become clomid resistant.
Again close monitoring is essential via blood tests and or ultrasounds; do not accept no monitoring at all.

Hi Jopage - am in exactly the same boat as you!
Have been TTC for quite a while, but feels a bit like stabbing in the dark (if you'll excuse all possible puns! Grin )if I am even ovulating at all.

No AF for over a year now - had thought that temping was useless with PCOS, but may give it another go!

And will be looking out for cervical mucus (niiiiiiiice).

GP has referred me to a gynae (appt next week) so I will let you know what they say.

In the meantime, good luck! Smile

thanks for messages!
will give the charting a go... would be good to hear what you gynae says TanteACSmile

in meantime will keep BD on a regular basis!
