Hello everyone!
Im ttc at the moment and am not having much luck, they found I had a small cyst when I had a mc two years ago. They said it shouldn't be any trouble but if I start getting symptoms to go back to the gp.

I'm having a trans v ultrasound next week to investigate and I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm sure I'm going to have to have something removed because my symptoms are pretty strong, I've been having hot flushes at night recently, my appetite is shot, I feel nauseous and sometimes have alot of pain on the right hand side. My lower abdomen is swollen to the right and I bloat like crazy if I eat.
It's so cruel that these are preg symptoms too :(
I'm only young and I'm terrified I won't be able to have children,
does anyone have any experience of this? Did you manage to concieve afterwards?
Any help etc is reallyreally appreciated
thanks h xx

Hi Hedge, I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation....I have just (last week) had confirmation of a large ovarian cyst which has been cooking for a little while. My symptoms are lots of spotting, bloating and lots of pregnancy symptoms! I can't be much help I'm afraid as I'm in the middle of the process, as I'm seeing my consultant soon following my ultrasound result.

One thing I can reassure you about is having the Internal ultrasound - I don't know if you have had one before (I hadn't) but it was really easy, not embarrassing or uncomfortable at all. I mean, I wouldn't choose to have one every day, but the girl was lovely and in a way it was a relief to see the thing on the screen that had been causing me all the trouble!

I don't know what the impact is on fertility, but how the docs proceed depends on how big the cyst is, whether it is causing problems and how old we are (eg pre-menopausal). I have braced myself to be told I may lose the ovary, but they probably don't know until they have a look. The good thing is that we have two ovaries to start with, and the other one will take over almost fully, as I understand it.

Try not to worry too much before you find out what is actually there (I know, easily said), I am in the same boat and have refrained from googling as no good comes of it! I hope you find out what is happening soon, and if you want I will update you on what my consultant says after my appointment.

Hi, not sure if this helps but this is my experience.

I had a large ovarian cyst a couple of years ago. I was 6 wks pg and it was suspected ectopic. Hedge very similar symptoms to what you describe, especially the pain in the lower rhs of my abdomen. I had a scan and they found it was a cyst. I was very lucky as although it was large it was 'simple' so they were happy to wait a few weeks. At the next scan it had gone (which was amazing and a big relief as not sure what they could have done as I was pg). Had no further problems (touch wood!)

Good luck to both of you

Hi i dont know if this will help but when i was about 16-18 i had a cyst removed and i have also had the internal ultra scan. First the scan is a lot easier then having a smear so when you have it try to relax as i was told if you tense up it can hurt a bit. when i had my cyst i didnt know about it till to late , the night before i found out about mine i was out with friends the next day i woke with what i thought was pms but it kept get worse it ended up with me in emergancy surgry . After a few more years i was told i had PCOS but the good news is im now the proud mother of 2 boys n trying for no.3 it might take a while but it is worth the wait so dont give up

Hi Hedgeblunder. I'm sorry to hear about what youve been experiencing lately. It's distressing and the worst thing is just not knowing the full extent/course of action isnt it? I want to reassure you on some things. The T-V ultrasound is really fine. I've had a few (for PCOS and infertility) and it's fine, not uncomfortable, and quite reassuring. It will also be good for you to ask to see on the screen what they're looking at and for them to explain to you what they see. Then they'll probably send the results to your specialist so you'll discuss it further at your next outpatients.

I too have had a number of cysts on my ovaries (one kind doctor once described my ovaries many years ago as 'resembling swiss cheese' as they were full of holes or cysts. I was also found to be not ovulating. My husband also then was found to have very low sperm and poor quality sperm. Just as we decided to wait before commencing fertility treatment I unexpectedly fell pregnant and am now 10 weeks. It was the LAST thing anyone expected but just goes to show that fertility is a lot more resilient than you think. Even if there is a risk to one of your ovaries, your second will more than make up for it and you could very well have an unexpected suprise on your hands soon too (if that is what you want that is!)

I hope you feel a little reassured.
Best wishes.
