Hiya

This is my first time on here. Have absolutely no idea on abbreviating words so please bear with me!
Just want some advice. Am in my late 20s with a 2 year old and wanting to try for a second. Came off the pill early july and still haven't had a period. Done 4 tests (just in case!) definitely not pregnant as all negative.
Had a brief chat with doctor who advised I need to wait another 2 months before going to see them properly. The last two have seemed endless already without waiting another two.
Has anyone else been in the same situation?
Thanks :)

My periods went awol for months at a time. Gp did lots of blood tests and turns out I have an underactive thyroid.

Since I have been on thyroxin, they have returned to normal.

Thanks DaftApeth. Think I might just make appt with docs to put my mind at rest

Yeap missed my period for 72 days then bled for 30 got diagnosed with underactive thyroid,

looking back I had loads of symptoms that I didn't notice, weight creepy on, feeling tired, cold when everyone else was warm,

I had a similar problem (I have polycystic ovaries and periods are infrequent anyway) It can take a few months for your body to start OVing properly after coming off the pill. I'd give it another month or two then go to see your GP again. I was given Norethisterone for a few days (normally used to stop bleeding) then upon stopping them, I promptly got a period and was then able to take Clomid to make me ovulate.

I know I'm being really impatient but when I came off the pill when trying for my son I fell straight away with no issues and I suppose I just feel a bit out of control. Don't want to be obsessed with it but I fear I might!

Have you thought about using any alternative/natural remedies while you are waiting? E.g. evening primrose oil, red clover blossom, agnus castus or such like.
As some of these (especially AC) are quite powerful you are not supposed to take them without checking with a qualified herbalist/doctor first, soooo, perhaps that could be a good excuse to make another appointment with the doctor to "check" if its OK to take supplements while actively trying to concieve?

good luck xxx

Thank you mummyabroad. That sounds like a good idea.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after taking the last tablet so it does not take months on end for body to get back into sync.

GP is being unhelpful here; I would try to see another doc within the practice. You should have blood tests done to see what your hormone levels are like. Both thyroid imbalance and polycystic ovaries can be detected through blood tests.

Do not self medicate with herbal type remedies without firstly seeking the advice of a properly qualified medical herbalist. This is because some of this can actually make any underlying hormonal problem worse.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.
