Hi,

We were talking about this a lot on the charting thread and thought it would be good to start a separate thread.

There's about 3 of us at the moment but please do join us too if you are TTC with this added probem.

My results were 9.07 and then a few weeks later 5.5. I'm due another blood test in 5 weeks and hopefully my GP should be starting me on Thyroxin soon.

Quite worried cos the NHS guidelines say your numbers should be a lot lower when pregnant. still i haven't got that BFP yet so I guess I'll worry then.

ladygonegaga and Bessie26 - hurry up and join me here Grin.

Can I ask for your expertise? Am 17 weeks pg, and have previously had underactive thyroid (caused by previous pregnancy), although stopped being medicated for it about 8 months ago; bizarrely, it seemed to right itself.

Now I'm pg I want to keep a close eye on things, but nobody has even checked my results- I think they're ok, but am unsure; my TSH is 1.39, and my free T4 is 13.3. Does that sound ok to you?

PopcornMouse · 29/12/2011 20:17

Hi tether - your TSH sounds right on the money, I don't know too much about T4s though, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly :)

Cheers fluttz - it's taken years (plural Blush ) but I don't have much willpower so it's not entirely down to my thyroid :o

tethersend · 29/12/2011 22:54

Thanks Popcorn Smile

Fluttz · 02/01/2012 14:17

hey nappymaestro,
thank you! that gives me hope :)
I think my period may be on the way, ive had brown discharge - very light since yesterday but seems to be disappearing and no blood flow yet. have decided to do one more pregnancy test then just forget about it and move on.

haha i see popcornmouse, well its still really good. im hoping to reach my goal gradually over 3 yrs as its taken me 2 months to lose 6lbs. lol... i just wish it would drop off one morning :D

Fluttz · 02/01/2012 14:19

tether congrats on the pregnancy :) i agree, ur tsh sounds perfect. it may be worth checking it every so often incase it changes. best thing to do is speak to ur doc to see if they think its necessary x

Just found this thread - hello all Smile

I have an 8 month old DD & have been recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism - GP said it might be post partum & sort itself out but unlikely as my levels are so high. My initial (mid Nov) TSH levels were over 150!?! & my T4 6.8 . Was started on thyroxine (50mg) & had my levels checked again just before Christmas - TSH now 31.72 & T4 11.4.

I'm really hoping this sorts itself out asap - I'm 37 & we would've dearly liked to have started ttc again by now. I mmc'd twins at 12wks before having DD & didn't have a good pregnancy either so wonder if I've been hypo for longer or if it is PP. What advice would you give a newbie? Do I need to ask for referral to an endo? Should we put ttc on hold? For how long? Anything else I should know? (I will try & read all of thread but have my 2nd GP apt tmrw to discuss meds so am full of questions)

Keep thinking if I hadn't been diagnosed I wouldn't prob have known till bloods taken once pregnant therefore if we were lucky enough to conceive again what would be would be but now I DO (know) if I mc'd again or had probs with baby that feels wrong.

Thanks for the reply NappyM.

GP has upped my dose by 25mg & I've to get bloods done again in 4 wks - she was quite positive that there had been such a difference in my TSH levels in a relatively short time although her advice was still to wait to ttc until my TSH/T4 levels are stable. She said that she only refers to endo for over active cases as hypo tends to sort itself out with meds although i'll maybe push for a referral or go private if I'm in the same position in 2/3 months. If and when I get pregnant again she'd up my dose of thyroxine by a third & do regular bloods so at least there's a plan if we get there.

I'm probably delusional re conceiving again anyway - my wee one still BFs on demand & feeds at night & my periods haven't returned yet but I guess we wanted to be in the 'what will be will be' camp with regards to getting pregnant instead of (now) actively trying to avoid doing so.

I'm resigned at the moment at putting ttc on hold - From what little I know of how being hypo affects things I knowingly put us at greater risk of another mc or having a baby with disabilities. If either happened when my levels are ok (& I'm therefore 'healthy') it'd still be bloody awful but at least I would know there was no blame to attach to myself (if that makes sense).

Hard not being able to try for what we want but hopefully won't take too long & at moment we're v lucky to have our gorgeous DD Grin

McKTastic · 05/01/2012 12:59

*I couldn't knowingly

I also meant to say before I posted that I am sorry you've been through MC too & that others on this thread are having difficulties . It's v sad when something a lot of people take for granted becomes so difficult.

From what I've gleaned from thread so far if my TSH levels end up falling within 'normal' range but are still higher than 2 I'll def think more about next steps re endo.

Roll on 4 wks time! Will keep in touch.

Nappy - that's my understanding too re TSH & being pregnant/risks. Hopefully my GP will help me get it to 2 or under & not just say it's normal when it falls within the range.

How old's your DS? I'm really hoping DD will self wean & like the idea of tandem feeding during pregnancy & beyond too (nothing like making life easy lol)

Back at docs today - TSH now 8.5 & T4 18.2 so fingers crossed after another four weeks on upped dosage I'll be good to go re TTC.

Hope everyone else feeling well Smile

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 16:39

Yay, that's much better McKTastic not far to go now :)

pippilongsmurfing · 08/02/2012 16:43

Hey Ladies, I'm TTC with an underactive thyroid and PCOS, am on first cycle ever of Clomid, and have been on Metformin also for a while.

I'm currently on 200mcg of Levothyroxine a day, and my last blood test was apparently good, dose didn't need altering up or down.

Good luck and babydust to everyone TTC and having problems.

Everyone tells you not to worry, but how can you not worry about it? I know I worry, and i know stress can be a contributing factor for not getting a BFP, but just can't help stressing over every little detail, you know, EWCM, temp taking, DTD, and anything and everything else.Blush

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 16:48

It's normal to worry pilli
I'm on 150mcg and my levels have been ok for about a year now - and I've just got my BFP! So as long as your levels are ok I don't think there's anything worth worrying over :)

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 16:49

(and good luck with the clomid btw!)

minipie · 08/02/2012 17:16

Hello everyone, bit late to the party but please may I join the thread?

I have recently had the day 3 and 7dpo blood tests and been diagnosed with underactive thyroid. Weirdly my T3 and T4 levels are in the normal range (can't remember the figures right now) but my TSH is quite high - 9.5 on one test and 10.2 on the next. So I've been told my thyroid is making the right hormones but having to work really hard to do that.

I've been put on 50mcg/day of Levothyroxine and also referred to an endocrinologist.

We've been ttcing for 10 months now with no success. I've also been referred to a fertility specialist. I have PCOS as well as the thyroid issue. Not sure if I am ovulating as they messed up the progesterone test so have to go back for that next month.

I wondered if anyone has any tips for me? Are there any supplements or anything else that might help...? I am just starting to look into all this, there is a lot of information out there!

Oh and congratulations to popcorn! when did you get your BFP?

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 17:22

You need to make sure you're getting enough iodine and I think selenium can help too - a conception multivit should cover that I think.

I found out last week, I'm 5+2 today and very happy! It took us almost a year, but we got there in the end :o (I don't think it was my thyroid though, as my levels have been under 2 for a good year now)

I'm impressed they've referred you so swiftly, that's really very positive :)

minipie · 08/02/2012 17:51

Thanks popcorn! I am planning to go get some new supplements this weekend so will look out for iodine and selenium.

I'm lucky in that I've got an excellent GP who is very proactive, she is a total star.
