Hi,

We were talking about this a lot on the charting thread and thought it would be good to start a separate thread.

There's about 3 of us at the moment but please do join us too if you are TTC with this added probem.

My results were 9.07 and then a few weeks later 5.5. I'm due another blood test in 5 weeks and hopefully my GP should be starting me on Thyroxin soon.

Quite worried cos the NHS guidelines say your numbers should be a lot lower when pregnant. still i haven't got that BFP yet so I guess I'll worry then.

ladygonegaga and Bessie26 - hurry up and join me here Grin.

Supersunny - I find my weight has a massive impact on my thyroid, even half a stone loss took me overactive, but then I have a really dodgy thyroid that tries to compensate when my thyroxine is at too low a dose, and I can go hyper when I'm actually on too little........ very odd, very complicated >_<

I was reading the other day, though, that you can use basal thermometers to keep track of your thyroid activity -- if you notice your temps dropping over several weeks/months it can mean your going underactive and visa-versa. There's lots of info about if you ask professor google :)

Hi hope everyone is ok I have a huge problem! I just found out i am pregnant but my tsh has shot up to 3,48 how worried should i be? I really dont want another miscarriage :( should i double my dose today? to help bring it down a little till i can get to the dr's.

Sn0wGoose · 16/08/2011 13:16

bebemad 3.48 is higher than ideal, but it's not actually high-high, iyswim - ideal is between .5 and 3.0 iirc. I wouldn't worry yourself; go to your GP and if you're preggers you'll be referred to a consultant endo for closer monitoring throughout your pregancy. It shouldn't cause you any problems at that level.

supersunny I'm 2.0 atm which is great, I've never been in the perfect category before!!! Last test was .13 and the one before was 6, without any med changes Hmm

Sn0wGoose · 16/08/2011 13:18

PS - don't double dose or tinker without a GP's opinion!! Going too far the other way can be just as harmful to you and baby.

bebemad · 16/08/2011 13:43

thanks snowgoose I'm waiting for my endo to call me back this afternoon, i am so upset and cant stop crying 15 days ago it was 2 and now it has gone up, I really feel out of control and worry what the higher level is doing to my baby.

Sn0wGoose · 16/08/2011 14:24

Aww, don't work yourself up! Being pregnant wreaks havoc with your levels, and in fact a lot of women first develop hypothyroidism when they're pregnant -- but 3.48 really isn't that high and shouldn't hurt your baby at all imho. Your endo is obviously monitoring you super closely if you've had 2 bloods in 2 weeks, so it'll all be fine.

Let us know how it goes =_=

Sn0wGoose · 16/08/2011 14:29

PS - if you phone the receptionists at the fertility clinic, they might be able to advise you on usual referral periods etc?

Sn0wGoose · 16/08/2011 14:31

Wow, sorry - for some reason MN posted my reply to the previous thread I was looking at? How random is that!

ciwi · 16/08/2011 14:34

bebe congrats on your bfp, how far along are you? Please don't worry about a tsh of 3.5 if you were not known as underactive you wouldn't get treated at all at that level. Like the others have said, it's not that high and you are sorting your meds out to bring it down, you will be fine x

Thanks so much girls you are angels, feel a little bit of drama queen Blush I'm blaming the hormones, although i do have a natural tendency Wink

So anyway called my endo (he is a saint listened to all my full on drama queen worries) and he said to bump my thyroxine up to 100mg and go back for another check in 3 weeks, he said catching my TSH early is good and will not effect baby. He told my he would prescribe my selenium as i have hashimoto's and it will help the antibodies i think it is in brazil nuts like ciwi said earlier in the thread.

Thanks Ciwi 4w4days! how are you doing? how is the new dose working for you?

I'm off for a scan on Monday can't wait to see if everything is going well, blood work apart from TSH is great!

Thanks again you dont know how much you all being there means to me in my hormonal state Smile

ciwi · 16/08/2011 16:59

Glad you feel better now, don't worry about being a drama queen! It's stresssful enough in early pregnancy without worrying about thyroid levels too. That's what's great about this forum x
Can I ask how much selenium you have been prescribed? I am still just taking 2 brazil nuts a day, hope that is enough.
I feel fine on the new dose, I have been taking it for 3 weeks now so due to go for bloods next week. Am 9+1 now and have another reassurance scan tommorrow (private) as I am just so nervous, I really hope everything is ok.
Hi to everyone else, hope you are all well x

Ciwi Hope the scan went well today :) I will let you know the dose when I get my prescription through, I think 2 brazil nuts is a good amount from what i have read on the internet, it also said do not have anything with vit c around the same time as it can stop the selenium being absorbed.

Thanks Supersunnyday feeling better today amazing what sleep can do, and i felt better this morning esp taking my 100mg :) i reckon i should be in range within a week. Did you have consultant led during your pregnancy? another q are you breastfeeding? I only ask as I have heard underactive thyroid can make it hard for your milk to drop - this is new to me so sorry if ive got to wrong Blush

Hope everyone else is ok

Hi everyone,
Scan was great, little bub measuring 9+2 exactly and waving away at us! I can't believe the difference in scans since 7 weeks, it's amazing. I know it's still very early days but seeing the little one has really helped me to relax a bit (will see how long that lasts).
bebe thanks for the vit c tip, I will make sure I eat my brazil nuts seperately from my pregnacare then!

wow sunnyday thats really reassuring, thanks. So tempted to tell my mum now, might cave and tell her tonight! I don't know if you remember or not but I lost my 1st at 24 weeks so I know I am going to be nervous all the way through but for now everything is as it should be so I am happy x

bebemad · 17/08/2011 16:18

Great news ciwi Grin

Can i ask a question sorry if it is hard to answer when you lost your baby at 24 weeks did you know you had a thyroid issue or was it after the loss that you found out you had a thyroid issue?

ciwi · 17/08/2011 20:19

Hi bebe I don't mind you asking at all, I didnt know I had a thyroid issue then. I was given the all clear to try again after I lost my little boy and fell pregnant in February and at my 8 week check the mw said I will check your thyroid bloods because they were a bit high last time (this was the first I heard of it) I miscarried in March but no one told me again that my levels were high. I was really angry that they let me try again without telling me about the thyroid problem. I ended up chasing the results myself and seeing my GP and I was diagnosed from there. I am not sure my 24 week loss was thyroid related ot not, I got severe early onset pre eclampsia and some say it can be related, some say not. Either way, it's much better to be treated than not so I am hoping with that and low dose aspirin this time I will be more lucky.
Have you had a thyroid problem for a while? Is this your first baby?

bebemad · 18/08/2011 06:33

Thank you for telling me everything I know it must have been so hard.

I was diagnosed last August (in Austria we are living here for a while) when we went to a fertility clinic. But i think i have had a thyroid problem since i started my periods aged 12 i'm now 29! The NHS never tested me even though i went to the doctors monthly with all thyroid symptoms but i was fobbed off with allsorts. So i got pregnant last year after fertility help (1st cycle!) but had a mmc at 8 weeks.

I went back to the UK and the apparently brilliant doctor cut my dose in half from 50 to 25 within 5 weeks it shot up from 0.1 to 25.1. So started fertility treatment again this month and again 1st cycle BFP! as it will be my first I am very nervous this time but trying to enjoy everything. Luckily my doctors are very good which makes me relax a little off for a scan on monday and cannot wait to see if everything is ok so far. Will this be your first?
